Just purchased bike from owner who had the bike stationary for a while. While riding it sputters and jerks. Once I open throttle it moves. it only has 9900 klm and it is in fantastic condition.

Harley dealership say that fuel pump and injectors are filthy not allowing bike to breathe. I had a full service on it, changed plugs, oil done on it. Now I am waiting for fuel pump and injectors. What do you think with diadnosis

Hi The dealership are right but there are ways of dealing with the problem that don't require loads of cash. I had a similar problem with a Suzuki SV some years ago. i researched the problem on the web and spoke to a few bike performance places fuel goes off and causes all manner of problems with fuel injection and carbs.

I cured my problem by get a couple of bottles of injector and carb cleaner for petrol.engines you simply pour it into the tank and ride. I used Comma Petrol Magic (about £6 here in the UK) filled to nearly full tank poured the contents of 1 bottle into the tank and rode around after a few miles and a few small backfires I found the bike was performing much better and idle was nearly normal. I use this product every couple of months (normally ½ a bottle to a full tank) bike rides great. Hope this helps.

I am a new rider. Have no problem with clutchwork but when cruising and I speed up or slow down , the bike kind of jerks or lurches.

Hi Dave:
I see you're riding a 2009 twin. Very nice bike.
It sounds like you may be getting some unwanted throttle input or possibly mis-firing.
It's possible that a tune up may provide some improvement.
I'd be checking the plugs, air filter, clean the carb(s), and make sure the throttle cable and mechanism is functioning properly, from my wrist right on through to the carb.
Happy Riding!

2001 Electraglide w/ 47,986 miles. All was well, went on a 190 mile ride and bike stalled once at a light. All was well for the ride around town afterwards. Return ride home 5 hours later and about...

There could be a number of things going on here. First check your oil level if it is lower than normal you could have a sumping issue going on here. Next is to pull your air filter off so you can see your injectors, turn the ignition on and off 5 or 6 times to make sure your injectors are not leaking. While you have the air filter off look inside the throttle body with the trottle plate open and see if the IAC pintle is moving in and out when you turn the ignition on and off. This only controls cold ilde. If all is good you will have to reset the TPS.

I have a Kawasaki Ninja, ZX6r, 1997 F3. The bike starts great and rev's great when standing. At high rev's its as sweet as a nut. The problem seems to be when riding the bike and the revs are below 4,000....

There are adjustments on carbs for low speed air intake (air mixture screw)find out factory settings and reset that mixture.Sounds to me like those adjustments are out of sink.If so the bike will run very bad from idle to about 1/4 throttle then run great from there up to full throttle.this definitly sounds like carb problem.

Bike runs great. until it warms up then it backfires and spits and sputters

It sounds like a fuel problem. Next time it starts doing this, take the air filter cover and the air filter off. Leave the air filter backing plate on the engine and go for a ride. If it runs better, the carb is too rich. If it runs worse, the carb is too lean. They are usually jetted very lean from the factory to meet EPA standards.

If the bike is fuel injected, the dealer will have to change that as it's not owner servicable.

If you run it too long with the enricher on when it's cold, it will foul the spark plugs. The enricher is way rich. I usually only run the enricher long enough to get the warm enough to run while holding the throttle open or using the throttle lock. Don't run the enricher any longer than necessary. Put in a new set of plugs that try that. Big Twins are bad about the enricher fouling the plugs, Sportsters are the king of fouled plugs when using the enricher. When you purchase spark plugs, just buy the Autolite 4164 plugs. They run as well as anything out there and don't cost nearly as much.

Good Luck

Yamaha '2005 Xv250 idling problem

Have the shop put in a richer pilot jet, aka "slow jet". Also, move the needle clip down one notch for better low end performance.
