How can I change oil in transfer case?

If you want to know how here it is. Transfer cases have 2 plugs. A drain plug on the lower back of the case. And it has a fill/check plug. Remove top plug first to vent case. Remove bottom plug to drain oil. Replace bottom plug and tighten. You will need a pump or squeeze bottle to fill the case. Fill through the top hole until oil comes out of hole. Replace top plug...that's it.
Refer to owners manual for oil weight. Probably 90 but check to be sure.

Change gear oil 1981

Drain is on the bottom of the drive shaft. Fill is on the side of the drive shaft. Fill the shaft drive assembly to the bottom of the threads of the fill hole. Takes about 200-300ml.

After changing drive shaft how do i put oil back in gear box

There should be a level check/fill plug about half way up on the transaxle, about even with where the axle shafts go into the transaxle. Take the plug out and refill with oil till it just starts to ooze out the hole, then replace the plug.

Have 10000 miles on my bike does the shaft drive oil need to be changed or what?

Final drive assemblies on motorcycles generally cost over $1000. They tend to show signs of dirt after only 5000 miles. Having driven shaft drive motor cycles for over 30 years I usually change my 85/90 Hypoid gear oil at every second engine oil change. It is never very dirty but if taken into the sun light will show some fine metal chips (nothing to worry about). I highly recommend using synthetic Hypoid gear oil. It will cause less friction and the final drive will run at a much cooler temperature. One quart of Hypoid gear oil will change the rear end oil 3 or 4 times so it is good, cheap preventive maintenance. Simply take off the large fill cap, place a pan under the small drain bolt at the bottom of the pan, remove the drain bolt, drain the oil, put the drain bolt back in, and fill the final drive to the bottom of the larger fill hole (usually a quarter to half cup of oil), then replace the large cap being careful to only snug it tight enough to seal in the oil. If you over tighten it, it is designed to break! Be sure to check the owners manual on the exact amount of oil to use. Honda has changed the fill technique for some of the newer models. With a higher fill hole on some newer models you may be over filling the final drive, so you may have to measure the amount. Too much oil will cause waste and may cause over flow out the top vent. Happy Trails.

Leaking front differential How do I refill for now?

Buy a small amount of the recommended gear oil at an auto parts store.

Park the vehicle on level ground, and look for a fill plug about halfway up the front or back of the housing.

Remove the plug with a wrench, and stick the tip of your finger inside the fill hole. With your finger pretty much straight, you should be able to touch the gear oil.

If not, fill until it starts to run out the hole, then reinstall the plug.

I have just bought an old 1980 850 and it has solid drive shaft. I have no owner manual and need to know what kind of lubrication the drive shaft uses and how do I fill it. Thanks

hi,i am guessing you have a gs850g,if so the diff housing has two holes, one for draining, and one for filling, the lower of the two is for draining ,the upper of the two is for filling,to drain the diff oil simply undo the bottom of the two plugs and let the oil drain out,to refill simply replace the drain plug, undo the upper of the two plugs(this should be a relatively large one)refill with a good quality (normally 80-90w)gear oil,(the diff should hold about 400-700mls depending on model)simply fill the diff housing with oil untill it starts to dribble out of the filler hole(this is the correct lubricant level),then replace the plug, thats it ,very simple,i normally do the one in my 650 katana about every 30000km,to my knowledge there are no other lubrication points in the driveline, except the axle spline shaft which slides into the universal joint at the back of the gearbox, but this is normally fairly maintanence free as it is sealed from the environment by a fairly substantial rubber boot and shouldnt need looking at unless the rubber boot has been split or has perished,,hope this helps

When replacing the 80w gear lube in the front and rear axels, how do I know how much to add?

With the pickup on level ground and the fill plug removed. The fill plug is located in the center of the diff housing.(the side with out the drive shaft). Fill the diffs until the 80w is level with the bottom of the fill plug hole. You can feel for this with your finger. I recommend that you fill until oil starts to run out of fill hole. then wait 1 minute to let the oil settle. then check the level with your finger. if low add more. Check again. Put fill plug back in.

The stock toyota axles dont take much oil. give or take 2 quarts each differential. I have never measure exsactly.

-Note you can also check your manual trans and tranfer cases the same way. Thank you.
