Hi Henry try draining the carb there is a screw on the very bottom of the float bowl open it there might be some water in the fuel. If this doesn't work the carb needs a clean out. Regards Jim...

Car engine knocks when starting, once started it runs at high rpms by itself, check engine light blinks, and smoke coming from engine smelling like oil

Sorry absolutely no idea with my head under the bonnet -hood- Now has the opil been changed regular like every 5/6000 miles if its gungy and old then chances are you have knocked a big end out or two ,best advice is to trade it in quick whilst it still runs

Synthetic motor oil - Does it last any longer than regular motor oil ?

No. It does not last any longer than regular motor oil. The oil filter cannot pick up metal particles that are 50 times smaller than the diameter of the human hair. They accumulate over time. By the time you have driven 6000 miles, these micro sized metal particles start to cause excessive wear on the engine. This motor oil still has plenty of life in it. But it must be changed no later than 6000 miles, due to an inadequate oil filter that cannot pick up micro sized metal particles. All oil filters allow these micro sized metal particles to pass right through it. If your car has the feature of % of oil life left, you still need to change the motor oil at or before 6000 miles, regardless of the % of oil life left. It does not matter what brand of synthetic motor oil that you buy. They all need to be changed at the same interval that was stated in this article.

Have you changed the spark plugs every 3 years or
not over 60,000 miles?

Have you changed the front ( 2) O2 Sensors at 100,000
miles, the ones closest to the engine?

Have you Cleaned the MAF Sensor once or twice a year?

Replaced the Air Filter & Fuel Filter--every 3 years?

Do you have an OBD light on dash & a misfire code stored?

My car has 140,000 kms hw often do i need an oil changeits a 1997 honda civic

To keep it simple: Your car should have used synthetic oil originally:

If you are using Regular Motor Oil - I found through many years of doing oil changes & auto repairs that 3000 miles is the MAX you should drive before changing. After that it tends to lose it's protective qualities & you can actually feel the difference (once you've removed a few thousand dipsticks) in the viscosity.

Synthetic Lubricant- Higher Quality Products will make your car last longer & I can suggest no better improvement to anyones vehicle than to use Synthetic Oil. Change at 6000-7500 miles depending on type driving. City, Idling a lot, hard driving = 6000 & Cruising/highway regular speeds=7500.

Always make sure your air filter is clean & a new Oil filter is installed each time as this will keep the new oil clean longer which provides better lubrication & performance. Some car Mfgs say to skip oil filter change & do every other but I like the results I have rec'd with changing it each time. It also helps to keep the new oil cleaner by not mixing in the dirty oil that is in the filter & associated piping.

If your car is running well, stick with the 5W30 that was recommended as Honda engines are extremely close tolerance. If it has used regular motor oil & is a little noisy, during the warmer weather you could step up to a 10w40 or even better a 15W50 in the summer, preferably Synthetic. Better fuel economy, acceleration & less wear & tear.

Finally: 140K should earn you a badge. That's just a well broken in Honda if it's been well maintained and you should expect much more service from it. I hope that this helps. Good luck!

HOW OFTEN SHOULD THE AIR & CABIN (POLLEN) FILTERS BE CHANGED ON X TYPE 2lt DIESEL ?

These filters should both be replaced at the same time, every 6000 miles or every other oil change. However, the cabin filter almost always fouls up faster than the engine air filter, so maybe every 3000 miles for the cabin.

Our 2003 expedition has had MAF issues since 30,000 miles, Got 68,000 now?Basically stalling out or kinda missing while at med speed. One time ford said our K&N filter caused it and once a cheap air filter...

I have 2003 expedition also and yours could be one of a few of problems.
1) the pcv valve hose is leaking air at the elbows or rubber couplings as the oil vapor breaks down the rubber. I used heater hose plastic elbows with short straight hose couplings to limit the hose callapse from this.
2) your COPs (coil on plug) are going bad or got wet down in the boot areas. Have a diagnostic done with a obd2 reader that can read the misfires on mode 6 to find which plugs are misfiring before the set engine light are set. YOu may need to change your plugs too but use the OEM ones not aftermarket ones . When I pulled the OEM ones out they had a resistance of only 300 ohms and the aftermaket ones were running 6000 ohms. This caused me problems also till I put new OEM ones in again.
3) If you use a K&N filter you prob need to clean your MAF regularly so the engine doesnt run lean from the oil build up on the two small sensors inside.
