I have a 00 caviler and I have cleaned out the throttle body and I use fuel injector cleaner. But now in the cold winter (not sure if that is causing the problem) My car after it has warmed up will want to stall or stall when idling - only sometimes. A few times the idle has shoot up to around 2.5 revs while in drive - when I am just going at idle speed or a bit higher. Turning off the car and back on again sometimes helps. Any ideas?
Did you clean the idle air control motor, when you cleaned the throttle. Also check for vacuum leaks. The PCM controls the IAC motor. If it to dirty it can stick. Can cause a surge and stall.
does the valve just have a connector on it, then just crews out? Or is it a big deal to get it out of there... its very cold out right now and i dont have a garage.
It has an electrical plug and two screws/bolts. I don't think the 2.5 engines are hard to get to. Some times it is easier to pull the throttle body, then take it apart and clean everything. Brake clean and a toothbrush works great on cleaning these parts.
Yeah, it's cold here also.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control
Engine stalls or RPM
fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

No i did nothing with the idle air control valve. This is a chevroettle caviler 2000 z24, I read somewhere the valve can not be cleaned only replaced.
Ok ill give it a try, I have throttle body cleaner is that ok to use on this valve?
