Okay, You need to check the safeties.Usually this is the brake/clutch and the PTO switches. Also you need to check your ignition switch and wiring.

It would be a good idea to get a copy of your mower's wiring diagram to go by.

Engine won't turnover

It sound like the starter solenoid that forces the starter gear onto the flywheel, you need to replace the solenoid unit.

My 2005 nissan altima won't crank or turnover. It justs makes this clicking noise. Can you help me?

The click is most likely the starter solenoid you hear

Should be a familiar sound you've heard may times
on other cars

I would guess you know how old the battery is?

If it is original,it is 8 years old & dead,if so, replace it

If it is only 3 years old ,check the voltage with a meter

Next the solenoid could be working as you hear it,but
it's contacts are burnt,it can be replaced

You remove the starter & change the solenoid

Don't want to do that, buy the entire starter at auto parts,
not a dealer, cost too much to even be there for any reason.

I have a craftsman model 917.255812 lawn tractor - was running fine, turned off to empty leaf catcher - got back on and it would not start - doesn't turnover at all. I have replaced the battery and...

Hello Pappy,

Sounds like it is the starter solenoid that is on the positive battery cable on the right side panel below the battery. Part # 146154. Jump the two main terminals with a screw driver and if the starter turns the engine that's your problem. Be sure to remove the negative battery cable when you go to change out the solenoid.

If this was helpful, please vote yes. Thank you!!

My craftsman lawn tractor quit while cutting heavy grass. wouldn't restart..........pushed it to the garage............ took off deck......... still woundn't start replaced battery ......... still will...

Try using jumper cables and jumping from the positive battery post to the starter lug where the main cable hooks to the starter. If you don't have jumper cables find the solenoid on the inside of the right side panel. Pull the rubber caps off and jump that with an old screw driver if the engine turns and starts on either occasion it is the solenoid. Part # 192507 sells for about $15.00 at searspartsdirect.com

Turnover problem with toro 16-42z riding mower

A fully charged battery should read a minimum of 12.65, if it does not and connections and grounds are dirty then that's your problem. Start with a none fully charged battery. If you can bypass the solenoid and start it then the culprit is the solenoid. Good luck. donnyb60
