Why does my 1999 chrysler sebring convertible JXi with amp under pass front seat, all speakers work except for the 2 front door speakers and the speakers are not the problem, they work fine everywhere

I have tested both pass and driver door sreakers and they work great in the rear. The dash speakers even work. I tried a different amp under the seat and nothing worked so I put the regular amo back in. But no front door speakers working.(it has rained a lot lately and the floor did get wet but the speakers are not the problem and the rest of the entire system is sounding great!) weird. Thanks for any help!!

Most likely the amp. Manufacturers just don't seem to put these in spots that are dry. Behind the kick panel on the passenger side, this is where most water comes in. Under the seat, because water sits in/on the floor board it causes very high humidity. the other is in the truck, which also leaks and stores high humidity. And of course, they don't make them weather/water proof because the amp is inside the car. Thing is, you can't bypass the amp. The radio needs it to run the speakers. No amp, No sound. Your three options are, 1 replace the amp to get the door speakers. 2 repair the amp. 3 replace the radio and still have to bypass the amp. The speaker wires run from the radio to the amp from the amp to the speakers. So you will have to splice in a new radio, and splice the speakers wires at the amp. Hope this helps.

Testimonial: "Randy Ohler is dead on. You can tell Randy is a pro. Whats more, he answered the question with real information pertaining to the questions topic. Seems like he has def put in his time learning the complexities of an overwired system and is more than capable of explaining/answering a question as well. Not blowing it off with no information and a suggestion to simply stop where youre at and give the whole thing up. To just throw away the project youre involved in because it may be hard, to go pay someone else to touch two wires together and put some tape on it, to go buy all new equipment because the equipment isnt as easy to work on as other stuff, all those responses are simply a copout. Thanks Randy for actually comprehending the question and replying an answer that is understandable and in laymen terms. What a pro."

Update- Got another amp out of a car from a salvage place that you pull your own parts. There were about 6 cars there that was the same as mine. 3 of them had an amp in them. One of the amps was really nice still so I got that one. When I got home I plugged it up and the front door speakers came right on. So just like that I had all 6 speakers playing again, not just the 2 little dash speakers and the 2 rear ones. All 6 worked and it sounded great. The amp costed 10 bucks from the pull a part place and while I was there I got a couple other things I've been looking for but didnt want to pay much for them. They were extremely cheap at that pull a part place. But anyway, Randy was dead on about what was wrong with the car not playing the front door speakers. Not only that, the fix he suggested worked perfectly and it only costed me ten bucks. No cutting up wires or that "chopping your car up" thing I read from someone else. I think whoever else it was that said it wasnt worth it and to take it to pro shops and the car was nothing but ragged and all that stuff was just angry at the model of the vehicle because they dont know how to work on them. But to tell people to their vehicles have to be "cut up" or "are regged" just because you dont know how to work on them, or theyre out your league or knowledge level, its no reason to answer with get rid of the car or whatever or that the car is no good, how about just dont answer the questions people have that pertain to things you dont know anything about. This cars stereo rocks. And it was as simple as plugging in a cord into a wall outlet. Truley simple! There was literally no cutting anything whatsoever, no taping up joined wires, no electrical cutters needed for anything, period. Just simply unplugging one amp and plugging the end back into another amp in the exact same hole. My goodness, it cant get ANY easier than what I did that Randy said was wrong to begin with. Man, I'd stop offering up all that bad advice and go learn a few things about what you are going to respond to. Sorry. But its just exactly that, what happened is what happened. No offense. But I sure hope anyone else out there that asks a question about fixing something on "fixya", just happens to get Randy to answer their wuestions, not you.

Sounds like you need to seek the help of professional. A reputable local custom shop should be able to get you going in a few hours. If you have problems, they can tell you what's wrong and how to fix it the same day. All you have to do is pay.

Testimonial: "Yea, thanks anyway. I think I'll start with checking for power to the wires 1st to see if wires are even good still.(that's from a post already in fixya) Then if there is, I'll probably bypass the amp altogether or get another one.(again, already in another post in fixya) Once I nail that down, I'll check back with fixya to see if theres anyone else out there other than people calling for us to just go to a shop and pay someone to fix stuff, i'll look for someone who may just happen to know something about the topic of my question. I guess if I wanted to find out how to fix something by paying someone else to fix it, I wouldn't learn a whole lot about how to fix something and there would no reason to ever go to this website ever again for info on how to "fix" things ever. This is the site called "fixya", right? Gee, I never thought about paying someone to fix something. Wow, what genius, thanks! Gee mister sir encyclopedia, thanks a lot!! Wow, you're a wealth of information. Where do store all that knowledge? That answer was soooo good, all fixya has to do is just sit back and put that answer to every question from everybody about every topic in every category on here, then they can simply close down the website and call it a wrap. Good job buddy, what a smart answer, they can actually go ahead post that 1 answer to every question that everyone ever always has and save a whole bunch of website space. Thanks "fixya", you all have done pretty good but theres been an answer to every question from everybody about every topic in every category thats ever existed. Good try anyway "fixya" but you weren't quite smart enough when it all came down to it. Theres one genius out there that found an answer to every question about everything. Golly gee, thanks mister, all I can say is wow-wee."

Hey jeffmay, get a reputable shop to show you how to do something then come on here and try to actually answer a question fo somebody about what they want to know. How about I go down the question list and put "sounds like you need professional help, go pay a reputable shop" and after a bunch of those I'll become a super master question answererererer. There, grown up enough for ya?

  • jeff5may32 Jan 13, 2015

I run a reputable shop. Have you diagnosed your head unit? The chryslers up to about 07 will run speakers straight off them no matter what premium sound speakers they put in. If your head makes music, the amp and probably wiring under the floor and seat is probably rusted and busted. The underseat location of the amp is a poor choice by chrysler. You can test the wires to and from the speakers and head under the seat. To bypass the factory amp, just unplug and go buy a factory amp bypass harness from me. Or chop up your car. I believe the chryslers have the same color input and output wires. Just chop em all up and match wire colors. Black tape the whole mess. If you add an amp, I highly suggest running all new wires. Put the new one high up in the trunk, where it can't get wet from your old, leaking rag top.

The jxi coupe 98 where is the battery how to find

Look at the passenger side Wheel well. I noticed when I was at a dealer once that they had put the batter here on some models. Front passenger side. If you don't find it there you'll have to look under the panel in the truck or under the back seat.

98 sebring jxi convertible. water pools in my back floor board

Sebring Convertibles have weep holes under the body that get clogged with debris and cause the water to back up into the floor. Take a paper clip and straighten it to clean out the weep holes. The weep holes can be found just under the frame at the doors where there is a seam(about where the jack would go). Along this seam about ervery 12 or 16 inches there will be a small slot for the water to drain.
