Technically you can't. A battery is direct current DC and an alternator is alternating current AC. You need to connect a rectifier to the alternator output wires this converts AC to DC then you will need some form of regulator to make sure the current does not overload the electrical system. Most modern bikes have the rectifier and regulator in one unit. Older bikes often had/have 2 units to cover this.
THIS DEPENDS ON WHETHER YOUR RECTIFIER HAS 5/ OR 7 WIRES, SIMPLE ENOUGH THOUGH , YOU WILL SEE THREE YELLOW WIRES THESE WILL COME FROM THE AC SIDE OF THE GENERATOR ON THE ENGINE TO THE RECTIFIER, IT IS HERE THE AC, ALTERNATING CURRENT IS CHANGED TO DIRECT CURRENT DC IS USED FOR STARTING THE BIKE, AND PROVIDING POWER FOR LIGHTS ETC, YOU WILL THEN FIND 1 OR 2 GREENS, GREEN IS THE BIKES EARTH ON OLDER HONDAS, SO PUT THESE WIRES TO A GOOD EARTHING POINT ON THE BIKE OR WIRE INTO THE LOOM , YOU WILL TEN FIND 1 OR 2 REDS, AS RED IS THE DC OUTPUT FROM THE RECTIFIER YOU WILL NEED TO CONNECT THIS TO THE POSOTIVE+SIDE OF THE BATTERY
left side, there are three wires going into casing.they go to the stator. FUSES and volt regulator can appear to be bad alternator too.charge battery first, then unplug the three wire connector ,start bike , with voltmeter in volts ac check for output on these wires(do not check against ground but from one to the other until all 3 combinations have been noted) if none can be found its bad,or if all 3 combos do not have 50 volts AC or so with engine rpms around 2000 .next is volt reg. its output is in DC volts and should be 12 to 15 volts dc.
