When I turn the ignition on my lights both head light and tail light don't work
Hi, you have a few things that could be at fault, check the wiring at the battery, then check and see if the bulbs have blown, if they have, check that the wires on the voltage regulator make sure they are not loose or don't have dirty connections, then check the fuses, then check if the relay if you have one is working, then check the light switch itself. you have a lot to check just take your time and good luck.

did you also check the fuses under the hood, there is a 20 amp out there that feeds that circuit.

if u have trailer plug check there for broken wire at plug elect.connection,if not, usually on trucks wire damage is at rear,if lights are working in frt.check elect.circuit from tail light housing going to frt

With light switch on, test the wires leading up to the mentioned lights with a test light(cost about 5 or 6 bucks at wal-mart) that way u can eliminate any corrosion questions and get to the source quicker, if test light indicates that the wire is hot, than check connection areas for any wear and tear and possible carbon corrosion. Check lightbulbs, my license plate light stopped working and wire was hot, but wouldnt turn on due to the housing base, got too dryrotted and wouldnt function propery, had to rig it up, but works now.

take out the plastic panel on the drivers side in the cargo area. tucked inside the body where the taillight wiring is you will find about 6 to 8 wiring plugs. disconect all of them (dont forget to mark them as you disconnect each one. put in a new fuse and turn on the ignition. start connecting them one by one, you will hear the fuse blow when you connect the one thats bad. it should be either the rear window defroster or the rear wiper. it may sound like a lot of work, but it's pretty simple. hope that works it did for me.
