1985 Suzuki GS700 - pull and clean carbs

I need to clean the carbs ( bike sat for three years) but I can't find a repair manual and don't know the trick to removing the carbs ( it looks like the air box can only come out after the carbs have been removed. Any advice ( other than run in the other direction) Thanks

Synchronizing and balancing the carbs will be a nightmare. I would make a diagram of what hoses attach where and mark each hose. If you remove any adjusting screws or jets, write down the number of turns it takes for removal and than put each one back the same number of turns. Before removing the carbs, drain them (assuming there is anything in them). Now get a spray can of Berrymans carb cleaner (or another brand), and fill the float bowls full of cleaner by disconnecting the fuel lines and spraying into each fuel line until the level in the line is reaching the top of the float bowl. Now wait for a couple of days while the cleaner softens the dried varnish residue in the carbs. Now remove the carbs as a set then dis-assemble and clean with a couple more cans of cleaner. 1985 Suzuki GS700 - pull and clean carbs - 6807ee4.gif Getting the pilot jets cleaned out is the big trick. If it will not idle, the pilot jet is problem.

Below is a diagram of your carb. The same diagram with the entire carb assembly AND your entire bike can be found at Babbitt's.
Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock. www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrandand/parts.aspx

Another hint... You should pour about two ounces of "Seafoam" into your main fuel line. Run the bike for a minute and then let it soak in the bowls and passages of the carbs fore a day or two. Start it every day for a couple minutes to bring fresh seafoam into the carbs and it will clear all the crud without a rebuild. Get it at any auto parts store and use it in the gas for the first few tanks to clean things out.
A complete rebuild is a serious bit of work and there are a lot of things to know. Try it the easy way first.

On 1995 Suzuki Intruder vs805 how do I adjust the split cable between carbs , it has two carbs , the problem I am having is that my back cylinder is loading up and back firing at idle , at low rpms and...

I don't know the specific system, but back then it was common to split the throttle cables with no adjustment. You need to sync the carbs. However- chances are, if you haven't messed with anything, the carbs are dirty. I just had mine cleaned, the bike had sat for a while. The process includes synching them if you take it to a mechanic, but honestly, they probably won't need to do it either, if that's the problem. Trust me though- you mess with it, and it just needs a cleaning, you'll make it so much worse. If this bike sat for a while, I'd look at the cleaning, my guy charges $75 per carb, out the door no hassles. I rode it Saturday, plan on riding it again Friday.

2000 gsxr600y Flat spots and rough running at 8 and 11 thousand rpm, won't pull passed 11000 from 4th gear up as running so rough

Full disassemble of carbs is needed. Thorough cleaning on jets and airways, vacuum and pilot screw adjustment must be done too.
Check the spark plugs for lean mixture indication and replace them if necessary.

Fuel leaking from air box after shutting down

Hi
Thats the float valve seals not shutting off, did you clean them & set the float heights?
The overflows from the carb bottoms must also be blocked for the fuel to fill up the carbs which then leaks into the air filter
Check also that the fuel tap turns off when bike is not running
