SOURCE: 1985 Yamaha xj700 Maxim- Carb. fuel lines

yes, the breather line hooks to the petcock on the line facing the back, the fuel line hooks to the larger one. the line from the breather is actually a vacume line that turns on the fuel, without it you will not get fuel out of the petcock unless it is in the prime position.

Change oil and, filters regularly; lube the throttle cables and, all moving parts drain the fuel tank and, replace the fuel filter every year, or; when needed. never leave fuel in the bike when you store it without using "stabil" only check your ignition with a timing light get a maintenance schedule from the bike's manufacturer and, follow it.

SOURCE: Yamaha 650 Maxim Won't Turnover

Make sure the battery is fully charged and the battery connections are free of corrosion and tight. A fully charged 12 volt battery should read at least 13.25 volts. Also check the fuses, making sure each one is not 'blown' and is making proper electrical contact in the fuse box.
If the above items are correct but it still won't crank over with the electric starter, locate the starter solenoid and - using a large screwdriver - carefully touch it across the two large cable connections on the top. If the starter spins over, then you've got a bad starter solenoid. If you've got voltage to the top of the solenoid and the starter still doesn't spin, then you've got either a bad starter motor or a bad electrical connection going to it.

Testimonial: "I did the screwdriver trick and it started to turnover (I've probably got a dead/dying battery too) and it looks like its the solenoid. Thanks!"

My 1982 Maxim 750 seems to knock when warm at 4000 to 4500 rpm while riding. Could it be the semi synthetic oil? Should I put 20W50 Organic oil?

have you put too much oil in it?,,may sound like a stupid question.Only other alternative is to revert to the original oil asusing synthetic oil on some engines that were designed to run on 20/50 mineral oil maycause a problem called bearing skate. Stick with the correct oil
