SOURCE: which direction do I place

Hello Wadeanderton,

In order to place the brushes the proper way you are going to need a flashlight. What you need to do is shine a light up in the brush hole and see where the indention is at the back of the hole and put the tapered edge to that side of the square and then you will have to do the same thing on the other side. I have been working on these for about 10 years and still have to look to make sure they are in the proper direction.

I hope I was able to help and would like to thank you for choosing FIxYa to answer your questions.

SOURCE: kitchenaid mixer k45ss slow gear

If you look into the brush holder you will see a stopper at the botom ,(this is so when brushes are wore the spring is not driven into armature) .. the brushes have to be inserted so the groove is lined up , try that

SOURCE: KitchenAid KSM5PSGR Stand Mixer - attachments not turning

Hi Gail. Kitchenaid no longer has a Parts List for your model. This means that they consider it obsolete. Do an Internet search for parts. You may get lucky. Good luck!

SOURCE: k45ss kitchenaid stand mixer, i took out the brushes

jrichards - I hate it when that happens! It seems that power is not getting to the armature from the brushes so I would suspect that one or both of the brushes is (are) not seated properly. Did you remove the brushes to replace them or were you just inspecting them? I'd suggest removing them again and making sure the contacts are facing in the right direction to contact the armature. The concave contact face should be resting completely on the armature. If you've turned it 90 degrees too much, it wont' seat properly. I hope this helps... Howard, Burke, VA

SOURCE: seating the brushes on the Kitchenaid ksm90 mixer

You don't need to seat the brushes. Remove the brush caps and pull the brushes out by their springs, being VERY careful to note the position of them since they only go back in one way. Measure the free length of the spring before pulling it out. It is critical that you write down the length sticking out with very slight pressure on it so that it is seated against the armature when you measure.

Clean the curved surface of the carbon brushes with a sharp knife being careful not to scratch the curved surface. If you have them installed wrong they will not go all the way in and will not contact the armature and it will not run. Measure the length, as done above, of the spring to make sure it is in correctly!! If it is not in correctly the spring will stick out 1/4 inch longer than it should.

Sparking under the speed control switch on kitchenaid mixer

Worn carbon motor brushes typically cause motor sparking when you're running the mixer. Unplug the stand mixer and examine the motor brushes for wear. To remove a motor brush, use a screwdriver to unscrew the motor brush cap. Pull the cap and the carbon brush out.

Thank you for using Fixya.

My wife has a K5A mixer from the '70's that she loves. While I was checking the brushes, I over-tightened the brush cap and broke the threaded part it screws into. Can I get a new part?

The Brush holder caps / covers for the K5 series whether Hobart or Kitchenaid by Whirlpool (after 1986 when Whirlpool bought Kitchenaid from Hobart) will fit the K5-A they just wont be flush like the older Hobart caps. They come in black or white.

I just replaced worm wheel on my KitchenAid Stand Mixer. Power was working prior to worm wheel breakage. Mixer was running, but not spinning. Dismantled Mixer, and replaced worm wheel. Put back...

Check the carbon brushes, look inside the hole, it is keyed, the brushes only go in properly one way. Match the missing corner on the brush to the blocker inside the brush holder.

Kitchenaid mixer won't run changed out brushes and have changed them out in all 4 different positions

The brushes need to be seated onto the armature. Try going from off to high quickly and tapping the motor housing. Once the motor starts, let it run for 15 min plus to seat the brushes. Keep clear of or remove beaters whille trying to get the moror running. In brief, the brushesaren't making good contact with armature. Good Luck

DONT WORK

Hi. Before you get too far, call kitchenaid parts to find out if they still have parts for your mixer. They no longer show a parts list for the KSM90 so your mixer may end up in the trash.

Go to mendingshed.com and select the Kitchenaid products button then select Kitchenaid mixer parts. Near the top of the page locate the button for the free kitchenaid service manual. Download the manual and read about the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer.

This manual does not cover your mixer but is a usefull tool for working on any mixer. Good luck with it.

Kitchenaid ultrapower ksm90

Yes, First unplug the unit.On either sides of the mixer there are two black motor brush retainer screws. Carefully remove them paying attention to the motor brush keyed position. You will see that one side is keyed.Check to see if the brush is competely worn down,or possibly cracked ( replace ).Always reinstall brushes the same way they came out. This should solve the problem.
