Most importantly you must connect it correctly to the positive and negative terminal!!

First find where the battery is on your bike you shouldn't need to remove it from the bike - once you have located the battery have a close look at the wires going to it.

RED - positive

BLACK - negative

You must make sure you connect the red "positive" to the positive terminal and visa versa for the negative .

connect the battery charger clamps to the terminals and then turn on the power to the charger after its all connected.

hope this helps

SOURCE: where do i hook up

Take the seat off your bike and connect the red charger lead to the positive battery post and the black charger lead to the negative post. Consider getting a "smart charger" such as Battery Tender or Yuasa smart charger. You can install the "pig tail" and simply plug the charger into that. They won't over charge your battery either.

Good Luck

I bought a used harley sportster with out battery ,i put battery in but cables dont line up they are tight fit i turned them evey position ,but they dont line up

Cables on Sportsters are a fairly tight fit with the correct battery, but the do fit. Did you buy the correct battery for your bike? If it is, ensure you are putting the positive to positive and negative to negative. Like I said, "if" you have the correct battery, it may be tight, but they will hook up

Procedure for attaching a battery charger to a 2004 XL1200 Sportster Roadster please?

If you remove the seat and the battery cover, you can connect the battery charger positive lead directly to the positive battery terminal. Or, you can connect it to the battery connection at the starter, whichever is easiest to get to. Connect the negatve charger clamp to either the negative battery post or any good ground on the engine or frame of the bike. Once connected, turn the charger on with a 2-amp per hour charge rate.

How do I remove the negative battery cable to remove the battery for charging on a 2008 1200 sportster custom?

You can charge the battery without removing the battery. Find the large cable that comes from the battery where it connects to the starter. Connect you positive charger clamp there. Connect the negative charger clamp to any good frame ground on the bike. You can charge you battery using this method provided you battery charger clamps are not too big.

If you can't do this, you'll have to take the seat off the bike, remove the battery hold down strap, and then move the battery outwards so you can disconnect the negative battery cable.

Good Luck

Starter button began to turn over and the stopped.

Hello. Since your experiemcing an entire electrical failurte I would start by looking at your fuses. If they are all fine, then you might want to check to see if there is a short in the starter button, which seems to be the issue, but may not be. If these don't work, come back and we'll continue. I hope this helps you, and please remember to rate this fix when we are finished,

Engine won't turn over

Sounds like a dead battery to me. Hook it up to a good charger not a battery tender.
