How to check stator on 2007 fx - 2005 Harley Davidson XL 883R Sportster

It sounds like the stator has moved on its shaft, or you are missing a gasket or spacer under the cover.

stator coil at fault. gound the wire from your stator coil to check if it has spark, if not, replace your stator coil.

Hi, Deeaarrggaa before testing any electrical component in the Starter Circuit it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test because your battery may have 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amps causing the battery to be faulty and must be replaced especially "AGM" batteries.
1. Spark plugs in bad condition or have an improper gap or are partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition.
3. Loose wire/cable connection at one of the battery terminals, especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, check it at both ends, coil, or plug between ECM or ignition module.
4. Throttle controls not adjusted correctly.
5. Water or dirt in the fuel system.
6. Water or dirt in the carburetor.
7. Intake air leak.
8. Fuel tank vent hose and vapor valve plugged, or fuel line closed off, restricting fuel flow.
9. Enrichener valve inoperative.
10. Engine lubricant to heavy (winter operation).
11. Ignition is not functioning properly (possible sensor failure).
12. Faulty ignition coil.
13. Valves sticking.

If the stator needs to be replaced, get a new one. Rewinding would cost you much more. Have a different shop check the problem. Stators usually last the life of the bike.

so spark means the coil of ignition module or stator failed. Whichever components you have that is.

this could be a stator issue you want someone to check the stator to see if the charge being delivered to the bike is within the normal limits... by the way i would almost bet its the stator unless you have ground effects lights that could be grounded ou due to the heat a bike produces

violet i have checked the ground at the headlight and it is good. I also get no power at the yellow wire coming from the stator i do get power from the white wire coming from the stator. If i disconnect the wires from the headlight i then get no power from the white wire off the stator. if i disconect the yellow wire from the stator i also get no power from the white off the stator all connections seem to be fine and the bike runs great. the bulb is good please help! thanks all.,It sounds like you may have lost the stator ground or one of the windings is open. Measure the resistance from the yellow wire to ground and from the white wire to ground. Each winding should be less than 1 ohm to ground. You should also be able to measure resistance across the white and yellow leads. Here again, less than 1 ohm. __________________,,,
