I have a '95 with the 3.2L. V6 fuel injected engine. With all the electronic emission controls for ignition and fuel delivery to the engine, things like engine timing, fuel mixture adjustments are a thing of the past. There are 2 things to affect the gas millage: 1- Air filter is dirty. 2- O2 sensor is bad. I give a feedback to ECM to adjust fuel injection to maintain the Air: fuel ratio of 14.6 :1. It is now running rich because ECm didn't know the ration is now < 14.6:1 since O2 sensor didn't report this situation so ECm didn't adjust fuel injection to meet the golden ratio. Check these out and replace them to address the problem. Good luck.

If this is fuel injected with actual injectors you may find an adjustment on the throttle cable at the motor. If it has what appears to be a manifold mounted carborator there will be a throttle idle adjustment that you can adjust to increase idle.

Why do you think the valves need adjusted if only 500 miles on the engine? Your bike is fuel injected. Chances are 99.5% that any problems with how the motor starts and runs is the fuel injection system. If the bike was new in 2000, then it has been sitting a Very, Very long time. Gas in the tank evaporates and gums things up. Get the fuel injection system thoroughly cleaned and the problems will probably disappear.

Idle speed is not adjustable, it is controlled by the fuel injection computer, even if you tried to adjust it the computer would over ride any adjustment made by you. I assure you idle speed has negligible affect on fuel consumption
