A LOT depends on WHICH ENGINE your 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara is equipped with.Ignition timing is not adjustable on any engine except the 2.5L V-6. To adjust the ignition timing on the 2.5L V-6, a scan tool must be used to turn off the computer timing control to check and adjust base ignition timing. Base ignition timing specification is 4-6 degrees BTDC.
The timing on your car is not adjustable. If your timing is off you have other problems. There is no distibutor to adjust, it's all controlled by the PCM.
The engines for this vehicle, use a fixed ignition system. The PCM regulates ignition timing. Basic ignition timing is not adjustable.
Base (initial) ignition timing is NOT adjustable. Do not attempt to adjust ignition timing by rotating the distributor. All ignition timing functions are controlled by the Powertrain Control Module.Adjusting the timing on a Jeep Grand Cherokee requires special tools and an understanding of engine mechanics. Changing the timing on a Jeep Grand Cherokee with distributor-less ignition requires professional reprogramming of the powertrain control module. This guide covers Jeep Grand Cherokee models with distributed ignition only. you can go to this site and it will explain it. www.ehow.com/how_4521340_adjust-timing-jeep have a good day !!
