You have an air leak after the carburetor. Old, cracked rubber fittings between carb and cylinder will let air into the manifold causing a lean fuel/air mixture. Same is true of "O" rings and gaskets. If there is a leak in the head gasket that will lean the mix also. Fix the air leaks and you fix the problem.

Check the condition of the idle control valve. This is the favorite culprit of poor idling conditions.

2000 yamaha r1 revs high at normal driving speeds at normal operating temps

you must adjust the idling level..theres a screw way above the shifter (somewhere there) connected to the end of metal plate, turn to the right and idling level is high like yours, turn to the left and idling level is low...you figure where it'll sit right

I have a regal raptor 250 with tick over problem, cant get it to idle and it gos up and down the revs and runs poor, it has only done 1000 from new and its 2009.

Make sure that the air vent on the petrol tank is not blocked. The tube sometimes gets pinched when you sit on the seat.

2002 trailblazer LT (EXT) motor revs up at start-up , seems too high for my thoughts , then comes back down after a couple of seconds , mind you , it only does it after sitting overnight

It would be a help if you could let us know the idle speed when cold?
Vehicles usually have a higher tick over when they;ve been standing and are cold. It would increase by a few hundred RPM and then quickly drop back to normal as the engine warms up....

It is a 2007 sporttrac LTD with a 4.6 V8. When I start the truck in the morining or if it has been sitting for a while it sounds as if I have an exhaust leak as it ticks. If I rev the engine it backfires...

Its possible that there is a fuel flooding when the vehicle sits idle and this could be the reason that it starts off witha very rough idle, may be smoke and then clears up the cylinder to have the right fuel.Hence you may check the fuel pump for the residual fuel collection on the rail, have your pump calibrated.

I had the exact same problem on my 04 GC. I put some Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner in from Wal-Mart and it seemed to fix the problems right away. Let me know.
