'2002 Yamaha Vstar 1100 with motor with broken middle shaft removed. .... VStar for a 1100 and it started making a whining sound when decelerating-- I thought ..
i would try a lower octane first . and if possible try to get marine fuel. with no ethanol in it .its just normal gas like we use to have before .Anyway that bike was not meant for the fuel of today. this is a common problem with older bikes and smaller engines . see if the sound goes away after that . if not you may have a serious problem .
the chances are its the bairings in the drum that have gone, can you move the drum towards and away from the door easily? if so its prob the bairns, just like on a bike wheel they make the drum spin free but if they break it wobbles out of true causing problems and loud noise
if it was mine, I would buy some "fan belt dressing spray" and spray my fan belts or have them adjusted. first spray them once, if sound stops a few days, have the tension adjusted. if spray does not work the first time, this is not the problem.
It sounds like the drum is off balance, the drum could be scrapping along the side of the dryer. Check for a loose bolt on the drum assembly. Once it starts running the drum levels out and the scrapping noise goes away
Most bikes after so many miles(dont know what that number is for your particular bike)Need a valve adjustment.See how many miles are on bike and find out how many miles you need before you do valve adjustment.the tapping is usally more pronounced when bike idles because of low oil pressure,as long as noise goes away when you rev motor up its just a ajustment.if this noise gets worse then it could be an oil pressure problem.
That is the fuel pump doing its job of pumping. If it stops making noise, it stopped pumping, and no gas is getting into your motor. Your bike will not run without a running fuel pump. :)
Could be your timing chains are very loose, they will make a noise on start up. Also, when was the last time you adjusted the valves? If they are way out of adjustment, ( on the lose side) they will make some noise.
