Only 222 miles 04 VStar 650 Custom Rough Idle, new gas, new plugs

Carbs cleaned Not sure how well. any other suggestions for overall care. Looks new, Garaged

    This is what I was thinking, Once it warms up, it will Idle without opening the choke. Hesates off the line

Poor tickover is in the pilot circit. does it smooth out at half throttle? what condition do the plugs show after a long tickover?
if you didn't really really clean the carbs (full disassembly, all ports checked for good continuity) then go back and take them apart.

Your idling jets works well, but your throttling jet may have blocked in it. open the carburator and clean it.

650 vstar has set for a while if you leave the choke out it will idle but if you try to give it gas it dies if you push the choke in it dies drained tank put fresh gas in and sea foam didnt fix it the bike...
Sounds like you need to clean carbs or throttle bodies which ever you have.

I have a 2004 yamaha 650 v star custom, and it set for about 6 months, so we removed and cleaned the carbs, and put new spark plugs on it, and it started but wont run off choke also if you drop it into...
sir,please check your throttle cable from handle grip to carburetor i think your cable is not good.because of the idle.or you need to adjust also your air screw and gas

I have a 2003 vstar 650 and when i give it a lot of gas it dies. I have had a mechanic clean the carbs very exstensivly but it is still doing it we cant figure out the problem.
Check your float levels. At one time Yamaha Grizzleys had a problem with the float needle plating coming off causing the floats to stick. We had to put K&L aftermarket float needles in for two years until Yamaha decided to address the problem. They still may not acknowledge it. Also check the choke mechanism carefully just in case it malfunctioning during high vacuum/acceleration conditions. If the carb uses choke plungers make sure the rubber is in good condition and the mounting nuts on the carbs are not cracked.

I just bought a 1978 650b.It needs alot of tlc.carbs look clean when i took them apart.looks like a pretty good set of points.bought brand new plugsit doesn't want to idle below 1500 rpm by it self.idle...
Replace the pilot and main jets then really clean the carbs soak them in a good carb cleaner. When you re assemble the carbs make sure you have the air screws turned all the way in then one full turn out start from that setting.

Will not idle
Your carbs are dirty and need to be cleaned. A tank of bad gas or old gas can gel up the jets. You buy gas, drive home, and when you get there the bike stops idling. Light gelling can be fixed by draining the carbs (screw on bottom of bowl), pulling the fuel line off the tank, and squirting some motorcycle carburetor cleaner down the fuel line. Plug the fuel line back in turn on the gas and start up the bike. If that doesn't work, using the same procedure buy some Chevron Techron fuels system cleaner, pour directly into the carbs and let sit over night (also drain tank and heavily treat one gallon of gas and put in tank) Fire up bike and let run ,idle, slow drive for 5 to ten minutes. This will usually get cycle idling without disassembling carbs. If it still wont idle you will have to take off the carbs, disassemble and clean blowing through the jets and jet passageways.

Sticky throttle cabel
idle cable out of adjustment and or throttle cable needs adjusting also and they always need to be lubed at 5000 miles adjust throttle cable with wheel striaght forward idle cable to all the way right lock and 2-3mm free play on throttle grip

2007 vstar 650 custom has set for about a year. charged the battery. it would not idle. now it won't fire at all. i put carb cleaner in with the gas but i cant get it to stay running to do its job.
Take the plugs out clean or replace em' then try to crank it again......If you still don't get anything then you may have to take off the ol' carb and cleaner up..........what kind of carb cleaner did you put in with the gas??

Hi Im Ed-I have a 2007 vstar 650 on the way back from work my bike started to loose power. If you give it a little throttle its ok 1/2 throttle or more it cuts out and sounds like a cylinder isn't firing...

Vstar 650 classic. only will idle.

this is a very very commom problem after the cycle has gone over a storage period of anything over a month or so. what has happened is the deteriorated fuel has plugged the idle jet, and possibley other jetting. this is verified by pulling out the choke allows it to run. because this makes of for the loss of fuel the jets are not produceing. so to fix this you will need to remove the carbs and take out the jets and clean them thoroughly with a carb cleaner and possibly a very small gauge wire to break up builup. especially in the pilot jet. unfortunately fuel added carb cleaners dont seem to work for this kind of problem and to fix right they should be disassembled and cleaned thoroughly. thank you.
