2005 Honda Shadow 750 poor high-speed performance

2005 Honda Shadow 750 Runs normal 1st thru 4th gear up to about 60mph. When I shift to 5th and try to go faster, it revs like it is still in 4th with no increase in power.

SOURCE: won't accelerate in 4th gear

there is so many things that could cause what you are going through. the first thing i would do i check the clutch. it is where most problems with the tranny start and then you will get so a hole at the shop telling you that your tranny is bad when all that was wrong is the clutch being out of adjustment. take it to a shop you trust and have them check the clutch. it is a cheap process and does not take long to do at all. if it needs adjusting then you will be done and out without having to spend too much at all. if its more then you will be able to find out there. first thought though is the clutch.

Sounds like a bent shift fork or two. Replacing the bad shift forks is major surgery and is NOT recommended for the inexperienced mechanic. Several special tools are needed. The top end and gearbox get totally torn down just to get to the shift forks. This is a very expensive repair, guessing $2100 or so at the dealers. Bummer. Contact a few dealers to cofirm my view of the problem and the probable repair cost. The shift forks move left and right as the shift drum is rotated when you lift or push down on the shift pedal.

2010 crf450r jumping outta gear from 5th to 4th all other gears work fine

Terrence >>>> 1. Do not go through the gears while idling on a stand!!!
The rear tire is not moving at the speed that is normal for 4th or 5th gear..AND if you do get the tire moving that fast.. it is BEYOND DANGEROUS!!
This sounds like the 4th and 5th gears may need replacing.. or the shift drum detent for 5th gear has somehow become ineffective.. If you continue to ride this bike , you may cause more trouble and damage to the transmission.

Take this to a qualified professional!!

1983 yamaha venture royale 1200--- no power on high end. runs great at idle and going thru the gears up to 50mph then sluggish after that. changed the air filter, gas filter, plugs and brand new non...

good maintnance what you did. but these bikes lacked power in high gear and I used to always have to gear down and pick up more spead. remember that they are a touring bike so you shouldn't even be in 5th at 50mph. try this build enough speed and stay in 4th and don't go up to 5th unless you hit at least 60mph or a bit more. I have an 04 now and guess what, they are all the same you gotta build enough speed before 5th, I toped the 110mph on mine just last week. moral of story, don't treat them like normal cruisers, stay in 3d gear when around town. 4th is just as you get on the freeway and 5th is only for freeway.
I hope this helps.

I have a honda VTX 1300 that has a 5 speed transmission. I only count 4 when Im shifting. 1 down and 3 up.

Let me see, 1 down = 1st gear, 1 up = 2nd gear, 2 up = 3rd gear, 3 up = 4th gear, 4 up = 5th gear.
See, easy.

When im driving in 5th gear the RPM's seem high around 3500 is this normal?

I, also, thought this was high at first. After some research, I found that this car runs in that range at about 75 mph. So, yes. That is normal.
