Try switching off from wall then hold the eject button and switch on machine.do not release eject button , if tray fails to open check for a small pinhole on the front underneath tray bottom.this is an access point that you can push a paper clip in to override the mechanism.if still not opening then you will have to open case and manually remove but be aware the case screws usually have security tabs to void warranty if damaged.
Do you mean you cannot physically open the drive door? There is usually a small pinhole above the CD/DVD opening. If you bend a paper clip straight and poke it into the hole, that should release the door.
You need to either clean the laser or replace the dvd-rom drive.
Both of these cases involve opening up the console and voiding any warranty Microsoft offer.
First you need to determine if its not reading a certain type of disc, or not reading any disc at all, if iys not reading any disc at all, it may have grime or dirt on the laser causing the problem.
You can clean the laser with a clean cue-tip or cotton swab, by opening the console, removing the dvd-rom drive and then opening the dvd-rom drive case to expose the laser.
If after cleaning the laser it still does not read discs, you need to replace the dvd-rom drive. I hope this helps. Good luck.
Have you tried pushing a paperclip in the manual release hole in the bezel of the drive? The opening mechanism of the tray may be jambed shut, possibly pushing the release will unjamb the mechanism.
under teh machine there is an opening near the tray. Look inside adn you will see a small white tab. Use a small tool to reach in their and push it to the other side. That will open the tray.
The best thing for you to do in this case is send it back to Acer details can be found on thier website of how to do this. www.acer.com
If you wish to test this though, turn the laptop on and immediately eject the dvd drive whilst pressing the required key to enter the bios. Usually F2 or F12 if you can still find the Dvd drive listed in your bios when its ejected then it could be an OS problem. However if not its a hardware issue and opening the laptop will void the warranty.
I think what is happening is that when you open it in windows it causes the drive to be disconnected causing a fatal error in windows and thus it reboots or shuts down the system to prevent anymore damage.
The top and bottom covers are also held together with plactic catches.
After you remove the battery, CD/DVD drive and hard drive etc.
start near an openning and gently pull apart the top and bottom cases, you should hear a click as a catch releases, then continue to work around the edge fron this point.
I guess it depends on the type of drive your laptop came with. Some laptops have a switch on the bottom of the laptop that lets you release and remove the DVD drive. Others have a small screw that has to be removed to pull out the drive. Yet others need the case completely taken apart. Guess it depends on your model... Steven
