Yamaha v star 650 runs with choke on only

I have a 2004 v star 650 that runs only with the choke on or 3/4 , if i'm runnin I can take the choke off and it keeps runnig until I stop the i have to choke it again to start .I think i didn't store it right I left the gas valve on and did'nt drain the carbs Could this be the cause of the problem? If so what is the best solution. Thanks

That is the problem,You need to clean the carb jets and get the gum out of the bowl.

Not extremely hard, but a lot of small parts involved,And if done wrong or parts not correctly clean or put back in,Will make it worse. If you decide to undertake the process,Just take you time and just remove and clean one piece at a time,If you get stuck anywhere,Just post back and I can walk you through it.

I have a 05' Yamaha 650 V Star and it will only run if the choke is fully out, hot or cold engine. If the choke is pushed in, it immediately dies.

Has the bike been parked for two weeks or more? If so, the fuel has most likely gummed up and plugged fuel passages and jets. Might try adding 1/2 to full can of SeaFoam to existing fuel in the tank, crank the bike and run (with choke if you have to) at a high idle for several minutes. Shut it down and let set for an hour or so allowing the SeaFoam to work. Start bike again and run at high idle again, trying to run it without the choke. If this doesn't work, then the carb probablyneeds a tear down and a manuel cleaning and reset.

I have a 2004 650 v-star classet.i can start it on choke, but when i push the choke in it dyes.i drain both carborators bowls thinking it could have water in them, still have problem.

You may have to take the carb apart and clean the needle and seat valve. Make sure that float moves freely. Make sure that you have fresh fuel in it as well.

My 2006 yamaha v star 650 will run with choke on but will not rev . the engine will not run at all with the choke closed . if you cover the air intake it will rev

You have a vacumm hose loose look for small hose no connecter to anything - should solve it - I had a similar problem with a ZX9r the other day - same would run fine on choke not idle or start without it

Good Luck
