What voltage battery for a 1981 125cc Cagiva?

I have a 1981 125cc Cagiva mototcycle. I'm not sure it has the right battery. Does it take a 6 volt or a 12 volt? I imagine the coil would have to match. Can I use another brand coil?

If you have electric start u have a 12 volt system. if it's kick start only it could be 6 or 12....do you have the old battery...every cell w/a cap to put water in is 2 volts...3 caps =6 volt ....6 caps=12 volt
If u don't have the old battery take the headlight bulb out and voltage will be printed on it....Good luck to you friend...Tim

My cart has 6 8volt batteries that are dead my manual shows 4 12 volt batteries should I replace the 6 8 volt with 4 12 volt batteries

make sure that they are in fact 8 volt batteries
You can replace them with 6 by 12 volt batteries as the end voltage (48 volts ) is the same

Starting problem

You probably need to add water to the battery or the battery is getting weak and needs to be replaced. Water should cover the top of the battery plates. Get a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger and charge the battery for a few hours.
The problem may now go away.

If it continues then put a volt ohm meter on the battery and see what voltage is present when revving the engine. The voltage should be about 2 volts higher than the listed battery voltage, as in 6v now 8v / 12v now 14v.
If not, have the dealer check the stator and rectifier/regulator.

Please rate this solution. (four diamonds would be nice) Thanks!
