2004 ford ranger, 122k, tach reads 6000 at idle, reads 7000 at 30mph. sometimes reading is ok

It's possible that the 2004 Ford Ranger's engine or the tachometer itself is to blame for the difficulty you're describing with the tachometer reading. A crankshaft position sensor issue is one typical reason for a tachometer to read high. To determine the engine's RPM, this sensor transmits signals to the engine control module (ECM). The tachometer may show a reading higher than the real RPM if the sensor is broken.
There are several possible causes for this issue, including a problem with the tachometer itself, a problem with the sensor that sends information to the tachometer, or a problem with the vehicle's electrical system. It is also possible that the tachometer cable is loose, damaged, or disconnected.
It's recommendable to take your truck to a professional mechanic to diagnose and fix the problem. In some cases, the problem might be fixable by replacing the sensor or cable, but in other cases, it may require more extensive repairs or replacement of the tachometer itself.
It's also important to note that even though the tachometer is not working properly, it does not affect the performance of the engine, but it will give you a wrong idea of the RPM, which could lead you to over-rev the engine and cause damage.

1991 nissan 300zx tachometer in cluster not reading while running

The blown fuse is an indication of a short in that circuit. Most likely it was in the tach portion of the circuit causing the blowing of the fuse. Other circuits will pass through this fuse so simply replacing the fuse restored the other circuits but not the bad one. Get a schematic and trace the tach to that fuse you replaced.

Instrument panel guages work one day the not the next, whats the problem?

It's tach, not tack, short for tachometer. Were these gauges installed by unionized people? It could have been the gauges' day off, as per their collective agreement.
Most instrument panel woes are caused by bad grounds. Most panels are below the front glass, and if this leaks, guess where the water goes? Dashboard problems are a bear to fix sometimes, and costly in terms of labor. Have someone steal the car.

I HAVE THE XLV600 1996 MODEL.SOMETIMES THE LEFT CYLINDER AND THE TACHOMETER ARE NOT WORKING .

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, check/clean the terminals / connectors to / from the CDI and to / from the pulser coil. In worst case scenario a cold solder or a loose connection internal to the CDI.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

1986 gsxr 400.not sparking r starting

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If somehow, the CDI could be opened up, then component level repair maybe tried. There would be 2 final transistors that actually do the switching; 1 for each coil. Offhand, it would appear that 1 of those 2 is faulty. Otherwise, replacement is the only option.

Incidentally, in some versions, a fault in the tachometer could also cause one of the CDI's output to fail.

Postback results of tests.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Tachometer

I was listening to the radio show "Car Talk" the other day and they mentioned that the caller would need a new "cluster of instruments" from a recycled auto parts warehouse.
