SOURCE: Bike Died - No Power
i would check if you have a short somewhere.....but first make sure your battery connections are tight....gauges turning off and on while riding is usually a sign of a loose connection meaning you hit a bump or something and it briefly clips out...did the bike actually turn off??? i dunno....but that seems to be a very odd problem....take out the battery, put it on a trickle and let it charge to full cap....then reconnect making sure the terminal connections are secure and see what happens.... if that works, we''ll have to start diagnosing further, but like they always say, check the obvious first !
Headlights and, starter motors require more amps (power) than the blinkers and, taillights
so: jump your battery before you tear into the wiring
If it still doesn't start or, light up

I would check the vacuum line that opens the fuel feed valve. It's located right under the fuel shutoff valv and is fed by the #2 carburetor.

If it is bad gas then you need not only drain the tank but the carbs as well.
If the tank has the valve with three positions on it such as on, off and pri.
then you need to put it in the pri position after you remove the main outlet fuel line from the tank and make sure you have a suitable container to catch it in.
On the bottom of the carbs you'll find a screw which i think requires a phillips screw driver. You'll need to back those screws out until you have a fuel flow coming from the bottom of the carbs. After that close down the screws and replace the fuel lines. Leave it in the pri position until after you have put new gas in the tank. Once, this is done then turn the lever to the on position and it should start. If it doesn't then it could be dirt in the carb or no fuel flow to the carbs re blockage in the tank filter. I do believe also, that this pitcock may have a diaphragm in
it. If it doesn't then you shouldn't have a pri on the petcock lever on the tank.
Try this before, looking anywhere else.

Check your plug. If it is the wrong gap or wrong style it could be too hot of a plug. for your bike the plug that should be in there is a NGK IFR8H-11 they should cost $12.30. It's expensive but cheaper than an engine rebuild. Also it could be running lean, check to make sure the fuel filter is not clogged, or that the gas is stale. If the bike has been sitting for longer than three (3) weeks then you need to clean your Carburetors. It is about $100 per carb with most shops in the US, pricy but if you don't know what you are doing you can spend a lot more doing it yourself. Make sure you keep the oil filter clean and lubed properly, dirt destroys engines fast.
