When I take my bird for a ride from cold and came back and stop it pushes all the radiator water through the overflow of the cooling tank out under the bike. Bike runs hot in town driving. Please help me.

i would check if you have a short somewhere.....but first make sure your battery connections are tight....gauges turning off and on while riding is usually a sign of a loose connection meaning you hit a bump or something and it briefly clips out...did the bike actually turn off??? i dunno....but that seems to be a very odd problem....take out the battery, put it on a trickle and let it charge to full cap....then reconnect making sure the terminal connections are secure and see what happens.... if that works, we''ll have to start diagnosing further, but like they always say, check the obvious first !

Headlights and, starter motors require more amps (power) than the blinkers and, taillights
so: jump your battery before you tear into the wiring
If it still doesn't start or, light up
I'll help you troubleshoot the wiring

I would check the vacuum line that opens the fuel feed valve. It's located right under the fuel shutoff valv and is fed by the #2 carburetor.

If it is bad gas then you need not only drain the tank but the carbs as well.

If the tank has the valve with three positions on it such as on, off and pri.
then you need to put it in the pri position after you remove the main outlet fuel line from the tank and make sure you have a suitable container to catch it in.

On the bottom of the carbs you'll find a screw which i think requires a phillips screw driver. You'll need to back those screws out until you have a fuel flow coming from the bottom of the carbs. After that close down the screws and replace the fuel lines. Leave it in the pri position until after you have put new gas in the tank. Once, this is done then turn the lever to the on position and it should start. If it doesn't then it could be dirt in the carb or no fuel flow to the carbs re blockage in the tank filter. I do believe also, that this pitcock may have a diaphragm in
it. If it doesn't then you shouldn't have a pri on the petcock lever on the tank.

Try this before, looking anywhere else.

Check your plug. If it is the wrong gap or wrong style it could be too hot of a plug. for your bike the plug that should be in there is a NGK IFR8H-11 they should cost $12.30. It's expensive but cheaper than an engine rebuild.


Also it could be running lean, check to make sure the fuel filter is not clogged, or that the gas is stale. If the bike has been sitting for longer than three (3) weeks then you need to clean your Carburetors. It is about $100 per carb with most shops in the US, pricy but if you don't know what you are doing you can spend a lot more doing it yourself.


Make sure you keep the oil filter clean and lubed properly, dirt destroys engines fast.

Why is it that overflow tank is full, while radiator is low on coolant; coolant in tank not flowing back into the radiator?

You have a coolant leak. The engine gets hot and pushes coolant out under pressure into the overflow tank.When it cools, the volume of coolant decreases, the pressure drops to the point that it becomes a vacuum. The vacuum pulls in air more easily than coolant. It's thinner. So, you keep losing coolant from the radiator which makes the engine run hotter, each time until it eventually overheats and does damage. You need to have the cooling system pressure tested. The leak will show up. Usually, it's a loose hose clamp or cracked radiator tank high up, which makes it had to see the coolant because it doesn't leak much and it boils off leaving little or no evidence. Fill the system completely before pressure testing. Remember, checking the overflow tank means nothing when checking coolant level. There's no short-cut to checking the coolant level, take the radiator cap off when cold to accurately check level. Read the safety precautions on the car but always check when the engine is cold. NEVER HOT.

The overflow need to be filled with water?

Yes, it is important to include the overflow tank or bottle as integral with the radiator and coolant system as a whole. They all intermix. Actually, the level in the overflow tank is a true measure of the correct amount to keep your coolant at. There are two marks on the overflow: full hot and full cold. The coolant system on all modern cars is a sealed system and therefore should never require adding, save a very small amount through evaporation within the overflow tank- the only part that is open to atmosphere.

So once you get all the air out of the system that is possible, both in the engine and in the radiator, you have a full level everywhere, including the overflow tank where it should always remain somewhere between the full hot and full cold marks.

You are right that the overflow collects the heated radiator coolant. But it is due to the expansive properties of coolant-or water- that it expands when heated, (but not boiling-that is very bad news of a different sort). Your radiator cap is designed to open at a specific pressure, just enough to allow coolant to flow into the overflow. As the engine and coolant cools, it contracts, the level drops in the radiator, and a natural vacuum there will siphon the overflow tank back into the radiator until it is full again. That is why you have the full hot and full cold marks.

How do i put water in my radiator?

you need to replace thermostat and radiator cap.look under hood around engine compartment.look for a radiator cap near radiator,add 50/50 antifreeze and water to coolant system to bring up boiling point.pure water will cause engine run hotter because water evaporate away,remove radiator pour coolant in the radiator until coolant stop dropping in the radiator now some vechicle pour coolant in the coolant overflow jug,pour coolant until coolant level stop dropping and the coolant level stay at cold full mark.start engie let idle few minutes, watch coolant level in radiator if coolant start dropping add more coolant, when coolant level stop dropping put radiator cap back on let engine idle until both top radaitor hose and bottom coolant hose get warm turn off engine wait until it get cool then take a large rag slightly open radiator just a litle at a time to keep from getting scaled.once radiator remove add more coolant if low,put radiator cap back on start the engine let it idle watch the temp gauge if temperature gauge going hot zone stop engine wait until cool then add more coolant,keep doing this until engine stop overheating going into hot zone and coolant level stop dropping,make the coolant overflow jug coolant level stay at full cold mark, dont let jug run empty if so air will get in the coolant system causing engine to overheat.

The car was overheating i checked all hoses and replaced the thermostat the radiator it still is ovrheating and the water is boiling in the overflow tank

Answer could be a faulty thermostat,or it could be a sign that your head gasket is about to blow ,or last of all your timing could be out of sync.

Answer 2 from Inventus: It means your cooling system is funtioning properly. In a system having a coolant recovery tank, coolant in the radiator is always up to the brim, hot or cold. There is negligible or no air space. When coolant in the radiator expands sufficiently due to warming from the engine, it will squeeze past the pressure cap's bottom seal and flow into the recovery tank. (If no provision for such expansion was present, the expansion would rupture the radiator or your hoses.) Only coolant within the radiator is under pressure, and because of this pressure (together with the elevated boiling point that the "anti-freeze" permits), it normally does not boil. But once past the pressure cap's bottom seal, the overflow is at atmospheric pressure and therefore boils.
This boiling is usually unnoticed after a short, i.e., local, trip because the cooler coolant already in the recovery tank quenches it. But after some highway driving the influx of more hot overflow heats up all the coolant in the recovery tank to the (unpressurized, i.e., "natural") boiling point.
As the engine cools when shut off, the contracting coolant in the radiator sucks back coolant from the recovery tank. Fluid in the recovery tank should never be below the "full hot" or "full cold" marks, lest air be sucked in.

Your cooling fans are not turning on. It is not normal for your overflow tank to boil like that. It is true that your radiator is overflowing into the reserve tank, but that means yourr adiaotor is boiling. Check for blown fuses or relays for your cooling fans. IF theya re fine. run your engine for about 15 minutes and drive. When you temp level is at normal operating temp open your hood with the engine runing and see if your fans are on. If they are, then you may have a bad thermostat or a plugged radiator, or a bad water pump. If the fans are not on, get your cooling fan switch replaced if your car has one. Check your temp sending sensor

I replaced my radiator on my 2004 with a 2.2 and it seems like the thermostat is not opening. It can not get the air out. It seem to just to over heat and push the coolant out. Randy

Where to put coolant in 98 chevy blazer

IF THERE IS NO RADIATOR CAP ON TOP OF THE RADIATOR, YOU SHOULD SEE A SMALL HOSE TO THE TOP OF THE RADIATOR FOLLOW THAT TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER, THERE WILL BE A WHITE OR YELLOWISH CONTAINER ON THE WHEEL WELL, WITH A CAP ON TOP! IT USUALLY HAS COOLANT PRINTED ON IT! THAT IS WHERE YOU CAN PUT THE COOLANT!

Bleeding Air from Cooling System

With the system cold, fill the radiator with a 50/50 antifreeze and water mixture - fill it all the way to the top, then put the cap back on. Now, fill the plastic overflow bottle about 1/2 way with your antifreeze solution.
Ride the bike until normal operating temperature is achieved (or longer, if you like). Now park it and let it cool down again. Then, check the coolant level in the overflow bottle and add more antifreeze, if needed.
When you operated the engine until normal operating temperature was achieved, all air trapped in the cooling system gets pushed out by the expanding coolant (out through the overflow bottle and into the atmosphere). Then, during the subsequent cool-down period, only liquid is drawn back into the radiator from the overflow bottle as the engine coolant cools and contracts, not air. From this point, as long as the radiator cap is not removed - and the overflow bottle is maintained at the 'full' level, no air will enter the system.
