Changing the air cleaner is like installing a stage 1 kit, if you have not replaced the exhaust but plan to, do it before you have the ECM redone.

My 1996 ultra classic has a hiccup at 3k rpm. Could it be anything other than air-fuel?

well it sounds like its air/fuel There is a transfer spot in the carburetor where it changes from the LOW speed mixture to the HIGH speed mixture but if you have to much air , it will burp and also if you dont have enough fuel, it will also burp. You can either try changing the idle air screw or putting in 1/2 size bigger pilot jets. good luck

2006 harley ultra with true dual exhaust. back fire and sputteres and dies on cold start, will not idle, after running a few minutes on the road it clears up. only does it when its cold,

did you upgrade the air filter and the module for the fuel injection.the minute you change exhaust it messes up the 02 sensor, and the map readings etc.

99 Harley FLHTCU EFI, engine occasionally dies, on a restart can't hear fuel system pressurize. Cranks over good. Fuel Filter? Fuel Pump? Battery? (battery is 8 yeaars old) Thanks

Sometimes there is adaquate pressure and we don't hear the pump, but it does pump while crank and running. A couple of things here, one is the fuel filter, etc. and battery. You did not say how many miles are on the bie, somethings like the fuel filter are usually replaced based on mileage; while depending whee you are 3 years on a battery is about all you can expect.
The reasons why the bike dies can be many, especially at low RPM or idle. Check your air filter, replace if needed. Change your plugs if they are questionable. Change your fuel filter if you have 40K miles on the bike. Unfortunately you could have a range of sensors that are "tired" or about to go bad if the problem persist. The easiest thing to do is take to your dealer if after changing plugs, fuel filter, and air cleaner doesn't help. The dealer will hace the specialty tools to test the sensors and other components that may be in question. Usually they can determine what needs to be done in less than an hour.
Hope this helps.

2005 ultra classic efi. Back fire thru throtle body during cold start up. Engine light comes on for about 1 sec. After bike gets warmed up runs fine.

This is caused by a lean run. Did you change pipes or the air filter to a hight flow filter? If so you would need to have the bikes ECM flashed to richen the air fuel ratio or instal a unit to do this yourself. A power commander is somethink most of the riders I know use. If none of these apply to you then you will need to check the bike for an intke leak as this can also cause a lean running engine

At idle the engine revs up and down

engine lite on? would ck to make sure there is plenty of coolant in system. low coolant may cause idle hunting. also could have a vacuum leak or air intake restriction. ck air filter

"99 cherokee classic: sputtering when cold

I had the same problem with my 99 Cherokee. I was told to replace the blower motor for the carburetor, works great and gas mileage improved.
