1995 Yamaha virago runs but no lights work

Hi,

If possible, please transfer the lights to another working bike and check if the lights work when that bike is turned on. If so, then your bike needs to be repaired (might need old wires changed) before your lights and horn will function again.

Thank you.

Virago 1100 won't start. I just got a new battery and it started right away. put it away for 7 weeks and now is just dead. no oil light, no neutral light, can't change gears so not even sure it is in...

Sounds to me like some sort of short in the system which is also draining the battery. You need to carefully check the wiring that it has not rubbed through and the actual wires are not in close contact with the frame

1994 Yamaha Virago horn relay location

Hey Paige,,
just trace the wires from the horn backwards ,OR, from the handlebar switch forward until you run into the relay....(removing the gas tank makes this much easier)

I have a 1986 Yamaha Virago, the horns do not work. The four fuse between the tach and speedometer are good. the main fuse under the seat is good. Is there another fuse for the horn. if so where is it...

i dont know. but since its an 86 i'll take a guess that your horn is probably bad...check it with a voltmeter..hook up the red +lead to any of the two wires going to the horn then ground the other lead to a good bare frame or bolt, press the horn button..you'll see 12v when you press the button if that didn't work try the other wire...if you still dont see 12v then the horn is probably good and you have a broken wire or a bad fuse, sorry i dont know the location...but it should be with all the others like all the other bikes i"ve owned..you could just try replacing all the fuses that you see with new ones and then see if it works.

My 1992 yamaha virago turn signels and horn stoped working, I need to know what where and how to fix this, is it a fuse? If so where are the fuses? I'm on the road and I need to figure it out, thank u

hows it goin, check the fuse box, it is under the seat. if no fuses are blown, check the horn and flasher unit/Flasher relay connections. I think you have to separate problems.

High beam indicator light (the blue idiot light) doesn't come on when high beam switch and high beam is on and funcitioning on my '93 Virago 535. Just a bulb or something more sinister. Horn also does not...

check the bulb first, it powerd from the same circuit as the headlight so it shouldnt be a fuse, The horn may be an unrelated problem.
You will need a test light and check for power at the horn wire, and the indicator light

If the headlight goes out on my 82 virago 750 will the horns not work and should the high beam indicator still come on even if the headlight is blown

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

On your electrical questions for a Virago 750:
  • if the headlight goes out will the horns not work - yes, the horns should still work;
  • should the high beam indicator still come on even if the headlight is blown - yes, even if the headlight bulb has burned out.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Indicators, horn and lights don't work yet I have high beam

I am restoring a 1982 Yamaha Virago 750. The OEM horns were shot so I replaced them with standard 12 automotive horns. The problem is that when I push tht horn button with both horns connected, the system won't deliver enough power to run them. However if I disconnect either horn, the other one will work. It seems like the system can't deliver enough current for one. If I connect the two horns direct to the battery they work jsut fine. Is this an electrical system problem (diode, regulator, horn switch, bad ground?) or should I rewire with an aftermarket relay for the horns?
