2000 Honda CG 125 Cargo Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 06, 2013

Hi folks, Was caught out in very heavy rain with my CG 125 and after 15 mins the bike started to backfire and a few minutes later cut out completely, after standing still for a little while it started again but coughing and spluttering then cut out again after a mile or so.After being left for 20 mins bike started again then had a repeat of the problem. This happened until I finally got home very late and very wet. Never had any problems with the bike before this and always starts first time. Have a very slight oil leak the last month or so but very slight. Any ideas are welcome.

SOURCE: cbr 125 choke problem

It sounds like the choke line may not have been routed correctly when the new one was installed. Remove the gas tank and check to see that the line is not being stretched anywhere along the way AND that the gas tank when re-installed is not stretching the line. The line may have been kinked when installed. Look at the mechanical movement of the choke at the carb. Does it operate freely? Remove the air filter and look inside the center of the carb, (you may need to use a small mirror for this), does it look like the choke is opening and closing properly when the choke is moved on and off?

SOURCE: my honda cbr 600 is struggling as if it keeps

It all seems to be leading to fuel starvation. Have you checked the tank breather is not blocked which can be a small hole in the petrol cap or a tube from under the tank. It could also be a blocked fuel filter. There should be two. One inside the fuel tank under the petcock, another before the fuel pump. Here is the workshop manual where you can find all info you will ever need for this bike.
Hop this has been useful, rate me if it has...?
Thanks and good luck.

SOURCE: bike coughs, splutters and even backfires more so in low rev's

Either take the carbs off and clean them or add some fuel additive to clean the system. Sounds like you have a clogged jet.

SOURCE: no fuel to carb, I think..

I would check the vacuum line that opens the fuel feed valve. It's located right under the fuel shutoff valv and is fed by the #2 carburetor.

Whats wrong when your riding and the bike starts cutting out, backfiring, then just goes dead?

The first thing that you can check is the fuel pump, wiring and fuel filter. The power wires coming from the ignition, sometimes get corroded. the symptoms sounds like fuel starvation.

Backfiring through airbox

K.T.T moister can cause your bike to do most or all of the tings you said. Especially if your plug wires are cracked and worn. I suggest running some new wires and boots and use dialectic grease at the plug and up at the coil this will keep moister from buggering things up. Now if this doesn’t solve things then you might want to think about syncing your carbs. if you haven't already Checking your timing wont hurt as well.
