Starts and idles fine, but as soon as I twist the accelerator it stalls. Its been sitting over the winter. I drained the gas and put new gas in it today along with some carb cleaner and let it run for a bit, but still the same problem.

2006 v-star 1100, idles fine, just above idle to about 20% throttle runs terrible, above 20% runs fine. Have blown jets out three times, works better for a while then bad again. Really bad when cold, better when hot but never good. Have ordered bigger pilot jets to try. Any comments?

Love the bike, hate the carbs.

I am not savvy with the internal parts of that carburetor, however, I have had similar problems. There is a product that Auto Zone sales called RXP (I use it religiously), it is a gas additive. (Don't let them talk you into a different product). It is a very small bottle (often times they keep it behind the counter and you have to ask for it). It looks like one of those little energy shots, it costs about $8, but it is well worth it. It has worked miracles for me, and it will clean out your carb! But I can't guarantee that a dirty carb is your problem, anyways, I hope this helps.

Hi there!

Open up the carb and clean the jets with pressurized air. I also suspect water on the carburetor reservoir, before opening the carb, drain it first then run. Also, make sure the plugs are clean. Pull on the choke when twisting the accelerator, if it accelerates well, then warm the beast at normal temperature first before twisting the throttle hard again.

hope this helps-

My vstar 1100 dies when in idle. acceleration is fine. driving, shifting, everything else is fine. when the bike is coming down to idle, it dies

Is the idle speed set too low? If so, adjust it, using the idle speed adjusting screw, to the correct idle speed (900 RPM). If that's not the problem, then check for air leaks between the carburetors and the engine by spraying WD-40 around the intake manifolds with the engine running. If there is an intake leak, the engine RPM will change briefly when the WD-40 is sprayed near it.
Aside from that, there are two other things that can cause your engine to die when it should be idling: the idle speed mixture adjustment, or low cylinder compression. Of course, if it was idling fine before, and the idle mixture adjustment hasn't been changed, then do a compression check, first. To idle properly, each cylinder's compression needs to be at least 140 psi.

02 yamaha vstar 1100, ran fine. started it the

Sounds like it may be drawing air around the intake somewhere. Let it idle and spray around carefully with wd-40 until it speeds up. This will reveal the leak.
