Stihl Super Wood Boss 028AV sputters but won't run

I can get the saw to run on ether but it won't stay running. Have pulled carb apart and cleaned but same problem. Are my H/L settings off?? what would be a start point for the adjustment to H/L ?

Sounds like the fuel pump is bad in carb get a carb kit and rebuild it and check the fuel line from carb to to the filter in tank and if that is a two stoke eng with oil in gas do not run on ether will most likely burn up eng

I have a 420 stihl saw I installed a new carburetor new gas lines wonā€™t start if I pour gas in cyclinder runs for a minute then cuts off need help figuring this one

obviously it's not getting gas. remove the carb and recheck it. some have a plastic piece over the intake and output to keep the interior clean during transit. Forgetting to remove it will cause it not to get gas. Either that or the float is stuck closed, something like that. If the carb is new out of the box, they sometimes have a piece of plastic or something inside the float bowl to keep the float from banging around during shipping ect. Check that too.

Stihl 028 av super not oiling

Part of the routine service while sharpening the chain and adjusting the chain tension is to remove the guide bar to clean the slot and to clean the side of the saw case of any and all impacted crud. This impacted crud many times inhibits the oil flow to the bar causing it to appear as though the oiler is not oiling. Make sure you clean the discharge port of the oil pump...it will be the opening that aligns with a slot in the bar to transfer the oil to the chain.

After cleaning and reassembling, start the saw and rev it up for 2 to 3 seconds and observe the bar tip as it is aimed against a clean piece of cardboard. If the oiler is working, within this time frame, a thin film of oil will appear as it is slung off the bar tip.

A little more info is needed.

Compression test: a simple way is to hold the pull cord like you are going to start the saw. A strong motor with good compression tends to either stay in place or slowly fall as the piston moves. If the saw just falls down the motor is worn.

But compression increases as a motor warms up so I don't think this is your problem. If it was the saw would be very difficult to start like my dad's old Stihl 041 Farm Boss from the early 1970s.

20 minutes is a long time to run without a problem.

Consider cleaning the carburetor (or a small can of goof off) with carb cleaner - but don't get it on plastic or rubber parts only metal.

Smoke: How much smoke is there? If there is no smoke the mixture might not have enough oil causing the motor to overheat. Also, many small engines recommend regular not premium gas.

Stihl saw runs but won't idle.

The paper pumps get stiff and do not pump fuel very well. It's the new Ethanol gas that is the Carb Killers. You need a rebuild kit not just disassemble and clean.
You have IDLE ADJUST Low Speed adjust and High speed adjust. Low and High speed adjust have nothing to do with Idle.

Stihl 021 running poorly

Couple of things I would check first. Place a funnel in a can with a paper napkin covering bottom of funnel. Pour the gas from the saw into the funnel. If there is a lot of trash in there, remove the fuel line from tank. Clean the filter with carb. cleaner. Then clean the tank with carb. cleaner. If you still have problem. Replace the Air inlet tube, (clear tube with screw type device close to carb).

Stihl chain saw won't achieve max rpm

Crank seals are leaking, causes lean or low vacuum for the carb to work properly
