When I start the tractor with choke engaged, the tractor starts immediately, I open the choke and it seems to run fine. In 10 seconds or so it starts to sputter and die, I choke it again and it smooths out and runs fine again for a short time, then sputters and needs to be choked again. This repeats continuously. It ran fine yesterday while I mowed the yard, then last night I took it out to clean it up and this started. I thought something might be blocking fuel So I emptied the tank and put fresh fuel in, checked the fuel filter and couldn't see any debris in there. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If the choke has an adjustment point, then adjust the choke to a good overall working powerband. If it still doesn't act correctly, look for vacuum leaks. If it is an option, you may want to install a manually operated choke lever.

Try changing the its oil-seals. The problem lies there. It may be damaged or the oil-seals are now smaller than its is used to and it is because of the heat. The oil-seal are rounded things that are made of rubber.

mine did the same, I found out that the high speed jet was clogged, I pulled the fuel line off the filtor(going to the carb), stuck the line into a mixture of half gas half carb cleaner, I fanned it up and in 2 or 3 minutes it started running well, hope this helps.

have you had a look at carb side of things as it may be having fuel starvation probs.. the fuel in line not getting through jets or float chamber cleanly.. also the tank might have contamination from rust or debris..

ck for water in carb bowl. also ck for filter in gas tank, or something in gas tank.
