I have a '99 Yamaha V-Star 1100 Custom. I put a new battery in it towards the end of last summer. Unfortunately I did not take the battery out of the bike over the winter months.
Just took the bike out of its winter hibernation and it started first time. However, it is going completely dead from time to time when I gear down. I have power to the lights etc. If I leave it a couple minutes it seems to start back up again.
Can anyone please help me figure out the problem? Thanks, Tim.
Sounds more like a fuel problem to me. is it cold there did you use stabilizer in the gas? try some berrymans B12 in the gas it cleans everything up internally. it worked for me

Usually answered in minutes!
I did start it up 1 week ago and ran it for a couple of minutes before it stalled on me. Took air filter cover off and had some oily gas come out of the air intake.
