Just changed the fuel filter, but bike keeps stalling when on the kick stand? Bike runs fine when upright, but as soon as it goes on a angle it stalls.
It is a 2003 Yamaha 650 V-Star, yes it was stalling out before changing the fuel filter. It dies when put on the kick stand, and is difficult to get started when cold.It is a 2003 Yamaha 650 V-Star, yes it was stalling out before changing the fuel filter. stalls on kickstand........you're positive its not the kickstand safety switch cutting out the electrical?
is it only stalling when leaned over on the left hand side and not the right hand side?
is the fuel petcok on the same side as the kickstand? if so, have you looked inside the tank to see if anything moves to that side preventing fuel from flowing into the petcok? something might be sliding over the screen?stalls on kickstand........you're positive its not the kickstand safety switch cutting out the electrical?

You should check the kick stand switch with a meter or unplug it and install a jumper wire to be sure. Is your clutch adjusted properly? Is the bike trying to move when it is placed in gear?
check for the pinched vacuum line at the carb,, sportys are hard to locate because they are tucked in way behind , it ay have come disconnected, unless there is a load on the motor it will idle fine, add a little load and you get the feeling no fuel is getting through unless you rev it up
Changing to a K&N air filter changes the air/fuel mixture for your bike, and you're probably hitting an overly lean spot before things start to even out. For bikes still running carburetors, which I think you have, you can compensate for this by changing to a slightly larger idle jet. Your main jet is probably fine (it's kicking in after the lag); it's the crossover from idle to main jet that's causing the flat spot.
Talk to your dealership parts counter to get recommendations about jet settings. They may suggest, for example, to keep your existing idle jet and go with a different main jet. Expect to try a couple different setups to find one that works best for your bike and your riding style. I would highly recommend keeping your original jets, though, in case you ever go back to the stock air box.
It sounds like its time to have the carbuerator cleaned more then likely you have some varnish build up in the idle circuit. I cant remember if that bike has a fuel filter in line from the tank but if it does I would recommend changing that first as it could simply be starving the motor of fuel at idle.
Sounds like a fueling problem either water in the carbs or the fuel flow from the tap is insufficient. If there is a vacuum pipe it may have been dislodged or holed.

I think there will be some dust or something else which stops the smooth flowing of Petrol from Fuel tank to engine.
Since its not completly blocked, its running for few kms and turning off.
This is not a strange problem.
you will find there may have been water in tank which will only go through system when tank is empty 250ml of metholated spirits in to fuel tank WITH petrol should solve problem as metho evaporates water
Initially, if the bike will be run without its own battery, the engine will really stall. This is because there will be no consumer for the voltage output other than the ignition system which will clamp down when the engine is revved and the voltage tends to go higher still.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
