One more thing to try...loosen the gas cap when it starts misbehaving. If the tank is losing its vent, then it can act that way.

L2000 craftsman riding mower won't crank just backfires. Has new spark plug & carburetor fills up with fuel

Back fire is a result of timing being off. If the mower does not have electronic ignition, the points can be worn causing a timing issue. Back fire is usually and ignition of unburned fuel igniting outside the cylinder such as in the exhaust system. A valve not seating usually causes low compression but rarely does it cause a back fire. Start there.

Turned key on,lights on ignition go like its aflat battery but not, lights go on ok,told it could be starter motor, took starter motor out an use battery to test it while it was starter out of...

Easier to test in the car. Put starter back in the car. First, please try to jump start the car. If it will jump and start, starter is OK. If it will not jump start, go to the starter with a screwdriver. Use the screwdriver to short the big red-wire terminal to the small terminal on the solenoid. Be very careful not to short the big red-wire terminal to anything else, or you will get a big spark. If the battery, starter, and solenoid are good, the car will crank. If it does not crank, try again while jumping the battery to another car. If it cranks, the battery is low or the terminals need to be cleaned and tightened. If you have more questions, please reply.

Assuming you checked fuses and followed wiring for any signs of a short or connector undone. You're getting power to starter, but solenoid sounds dead if you have to bypass it.
If the engine spins but won't fire, I SUSPECT ingition problems. Encountered rain...is seal around ignition unit gone bad? That would splain the plug not firing.
Do you smell gas (oops...petrol) when you crank the motor? fuel getting to cylinder?
Check for water in fuel system.

Kick starter does not turn over the motor

Hi,
There is a gear mecanism that operates the kick starter.
Atteached to this is a stop lock. This is most likely your nemisis. Chances that the gear has brocken are slim.

Remote start (posibly)

Your battery is almost certainly flat.

When you start the engine, the starter motor takes a large bite of power out of the battery. It takes a long time to put that power back.

So, you tried to start with remote start and it did'nt fire up. This took a big bite.
Then you started manually. This took another big bite.

The engine started though, and the alternator began the mamoth task of putting two start attempts worth of power back into the battery.

After 5 minuites, you interupted the alternator and switched off.

Now the battery will be really ill!

You really need to get a jump start from a vehicle with a battery which is about as big as yours.

Connect the leads from the good battery to yours, making sure that the donor vehicle is running. Then walk away and have a coffee. Come back and try your truck again. It should start ok.

If your battery has done this even once, can it be trusted again? If its more than 3 years old, get a new one fitted.

Hope this helps!

88 inch motor will not run properly.

Is the front cylinder firing? put a spark tester on it or pull the plug and ground it to the motor head or something and roll it over and see if it fires. If not then chances are the ignition is bad.
