Where is the oil filter on a Yamaha XT 125?

Ive looked all over the engine and cant find anything that looks remotely like an oil filter compartment that ive seen on other bikes.

Thanks for fast response, im not a mechanical expert, was just wondering which side of the engine it is located. Right (kickstart side) or left (sprocket side).

    Thanks again

If I recall correctly, this bike has a centrifical oil "filter". Not really a filter as commonly refered to but rather a hub about the size and shape of an eggshell cut in half. Oil flows through the filter and centrifical force forces heavy particals to the face of the hub. Particals build up on the face and are thus "removed" from the oil supply. This type of filter is usually on the end of the crankshaft. To clean the filter just scrape away the soft buildup and put the engine sidecase back into place.

It is located on the kick start side just forward of the clutch and on the end of the crankshaft. Bear in mind, it may be that no filter exists at all. Doing an oil change is also a way some of the smaller bikes manage to clean the oil. It has been a few years since I have worked on that engine and don't recall for sure which filter style is used.

If you take off the clutch cover and look to the bottom right of the engine you will see a black ruber strip. Pull this out and thats your oil filter. Unlike your usual filters you can just clean it and place back in.

I cant find the engine oil on my 2007 mountain lite can u tell me where it is? they didnt have the product on which product so just go with the one i typed

check at the manufacturers site for this info ... or if you really want to look try www.archive.org search service manual for your brand.

somewhere probably on the right hand side of your bike, there is a screw cap with a handle that looks sort of like a thumb screw. Undo it ... it it has oil on the botton, you found it.

My sons yamaha badger 1999 quad wont start . ive got spark . ive found oil in the air filter box

Oil in thew air box, if it cam from the engine is a sign of wear. Do a compression test to see if the engine isn't worn, and if you can, look at the valve .(If it's four stroke)

XT 125 oil problem

Hi Pete!
I used to have a Xt 500 and loved it to bits, the oil filler then and presumably now is on the right side of the engine by the kick start (If you have one) it is a large black plastic screw topped item which will unscrew (Anticlockwise) to reveal a long shaft (Dip stick).
There you go!
Remember to keep bike upright to check level?
Any concerns please get back to me!
