The tail light on my bike is an after market LED light. The running light was working fine, but would not flash when pressing the brake. I adjusted the switch next to the rear brake and the light went off, but would flash when a press either brake...I can screw the switch tighter, and the light comes on, but won't flash when pressing the brake and vice versa. Seems like it should be a simple fix, but I don't know what to do...help?
Here is your solution. The assembly you replaced likely used a double contact bulb, like an 1157.(very common brake light bulb) and the after market you got is only a single contact. If you look at an 1157, you will notice 2 filaments inside. One for full time on, and 1 for bright side switched(brake). If your new light only has one contact, then it is either going to be light full time on, or switched light. The bulb might not be compatible with your bike. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your input! The light I have on the bike now has 3 wires, red, black, blue. The wires are afixed to the back of the light and cannot be removed. The wiring job is TERRIBLE about 6 inches behind the light where it was rigged to the other wires coming out of the bike. I crossed blue from bike to red at light and still no running light, but the brake light worked. the only other way to make the brake light work was red to red, blue to blue. I bought the bike with this light, and don't have any idea what the factory light should look like. The cluster under the seat is ridiculuous but I think I have found the wires that run to the brake light. QUESTION: would the headlamp and running light be tied into one another under the seat? 1 red wire is coming from back of the bike to a splitter that runs to a wire to the front of the bike
*the brake light is working though...4 flashes, then steady red when pressing either brake
Ok B., if you have the assembly off, there is an easyer way to figure it out. Remove your battery, or use a car battery or battery charger, Black goes to ground, then see the light's reaction when you make contact with the hot. Typicaly, the head light and the tail light will be on the same switch. I will give you an easy way to test your wiring in the next post.
Things you will need. A good headlight/tail light bulb, 2 lengths of wire, and electrical tape. Strip off a good amount off of the wires at each end. Wrap 1 wire(ground) around the outside of the bulb. Tape up the wire toward the top of the bulb. With the second wire, attach it to the bottom of the contact(posative) There you go!!! A cheap and easy way to test for power. Have a friend help if it's easyer, and while you have the ground grounded to either the frame or the negative of the battery(installed) wire elimination each line untill you know what each wire is. Like, the red wire you said, see if there is power before, or after you turn the key. hit the brakes, or select the turn signal. Easy to find the tail light hot, the brake light hot (switched) and the turn signals. If you would like, I can post some examples on my bike for visual aid.
*also, for your tester bulb, make sure it is not a halogen head light. They get hot and are harder to handle. ^^
Well...I finally just unwrapped a scary looking bundle of wire...the RED wire running from the tail light assemble is simply not connected to anything...it has electrical tape around the end of it...no I need to figure out where I can connect it so that it will turn on...there are some wires that are connected to a circuit board that are not connected to anything, but are labled right and left turn. my turn signals work just fine, so i guess those wires can remain as they are...any ideas on where to tie in the red...the closest point is a connector that the blue wire runs too...will it work if I disconnect blue, tie red in, and re-connect??
bluexblue+red?
You said your tail light, when working flashes 4 times then steady on? I think it has an on board computer that tells it to flash. This means the bike system doesn't control the flash. Witch is why I think the previous owner got frustrated with it and just taped it off. If you could snap a picyure of the light, and the wire bundle coming out, I can tell you right away. The previous owner either had a second tail light, or only rode durring the day. Also, if you have any details on the light like name and any numbers, I can cross referance and see exactly what you have. If you blue, to blue, to red, it would stay on full time and not switch. I have a 1989 Virago and will take some pics of it maybe it will help you. I will also try to look up the wiring for your bike with the description you gave.
OK! Got it. The tail light (power) wire was not connected to anything, and apparently never was. I found the wire buried in the frame. looks like it got hung up when the previous owner ran the wire. I ran it to the fuse panel and tied it around the fork on the fuse, plugged it in, and viola...tail light working. however the plate light is not working...might be blown or something...i don't know. Thanks for your help, I've learned alot. Now, Sea Foam...I have 5 gallon tank...how much sea foam should I use to clean the carb per. tank? 1 whole can? half?
Good to know you got your lights taken care of. For the sea foam, about 1 oz per gallon should do it.

sounds like a jetting issue. change the main jets starting from the largest one you own and work your way down.
SOURCE: V star 1100 05' starting problem
Hi Bullsport,
This problem occurs on too much starter cranking i.e. the engine doesnt respond or fire up at a go.
Try to check the bike's spark plugs.
Probabley it needs a good tune up ( the bike).
Good luck.

Look at the two bolts holding the starter on if they are not straight across then its twisted. turn starter back in line with a pair of big channel locks and try to start this should do the trick if this works i would recommend taking the two bolts out and bend them back straight or replace and reinstall starter this should fixya problem
