Does your Transfer Case shift Manually from the Floor? There is no Vacuum Line on the Transfer Case, it is a Vent Hose... Transmission and Transfer Case use them to allow the Components to breath and not build up pressure...

  • Anonymous Apr 12, 2013

manual shift on the floor and YES my transfer case has 4 vacume lines coming out of it, 2 go to the switch on the front axle and 2 go somewhere behind the motor bt the firewall

That is different than my 2000 Ram 1500, I am sorry that I can not assist you any further at this point, I am not experienced with a Vacuum Controlled Transfer Case... the old 1980's Chevy used them but no longer... Good Luck in finding the information you are seeking.

I think what you are looking at is a VENT TUBE and not a VACCUUM TUBE

What is the YEAR/MAKE/MODEL of your Truck?

VACUUM DIAGRAMS (See Figures 1 through 85)

Below is a listing of vacuum diagrams for most of the engine and emissions package combinations covered by this manual. Because vacuum circuits will vary based on various engine and vehicle options, always refer first to the vehicle emission control information label, if present. Should the label be missing, or should vehicle be equipped with a different engine from the car's original equipment, refer to the diagrams below for the same or similar configuration.

SOURCE: 2003 Sierra 2500hd transmission or transfer case

Sudden grinding noise with no prior warning * Primarily in 2nd gear, behavior in reverse may be abnormal; sunshell is fractured. R&R. Try not to run or drive the car or further damage could result.

* Reaction planetary is worn out due to high miles or insufficient lubrication. Not a critical failure, but not a good sign either. R&R sooner rather than later.

* Either a torrington bearing or a planetary bearing is on its way out. Trans will eventually die a loud, catastrophic death. Cheaper to rebuild now (saves further damage to hard parts), but requires R&R. It is drivable until it breaks.

Good luck and thank you for using fixya.

Found oil in vacum lines replaced some parts on trans blew out lines

Is this a 4x4? If so, vacuum switch on top of the transfer case and any HVAC parts that are damaged. That might be the part they replaced for you. Is there a hiss coming from the dash controls? If so, you will need to replace the mode switch with one from a junkyard. Otherwise you have to buy the whole control unit. I think it's about $65 bucks from Amazon. Probably $165 from the dealer. 2004 ford f150 4 wheel drive doesnt work

If your truck has Vacume actuated hubs check the vacume lines running to the hubs right behind the brake rotor. If it has the electronic actuated hubs, check connectors / and or replace actuator motor on the front diff. Also possible Transfer case motor seized if you have push button 4x4

My 1985 chev blazer will not engage the front drive axel. I had the transmission replaced and i now have unconnected vaccume lines around transfer case/transmission area. Is there a valve or something...

if the light for 4wd does not come on it could be that a vacume line has cracked or become seperated from the ball under your battery listen under hood for a hiss, my hisses usually come from somewhere around the heater box where the lines join together on the way to the ball or the vacume ball may be bad the front wheels will not enguage without vacume applied as vacume pulls the locks in. The xfer case is working if it turns the short driveshaft

FOUR WHEEL DRIVE DOSENT WORK VACUME LINE BROKE BUT CANT FIND WHERE IT GOES

the hose should be a vent to the axle, the axle should be live all the time and power is transfered by the transfer case, the 4x4 function is controled by an electric motor on the case, I would check fuses, but after that I woould recommend a shop look at it!

May need to replace the switch itself. Most new vehcile are all electronically engaged. Replace the switch. Cheap fix compared to going into the transfer case first.

I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab 4x4. I have been in Iraq for 15 months, and now that I'm back I went out to test the truck out. when trying to switch into 4 high, nothing happens, no "jump",...

Most likly cause to your problem would be the transfer case vacume switch check for vacume at switch then check for vacume at the front differntal if you have vacume at switch but none at the front differntal then replace transfer case vacume switch if no vacume at switch look for broken vacume line at intake manifold

1993 Chevy Blazer Mileage scrambled and 4 hi not working.

ok well its hard to do without seeing it. but here goes. if it has electronic dash then it sounds like you either have a faulty conection on you wires to it or your cluster is fubared. best way is if ya have a friend with the same truck swap out and see if that helps. if ya dont have a buddy with one then check your wires on the back of the gauages. might have some corrotion on the little brass whire inlets on the clusters. if that doesnt work ya prob need new cluster. as for the 4x4 will sounds like an intermitten problem.if ya have a good seal on your actuator on the top of the transfer case check the vacume lines that run to it for vacume.one will have vacume. does your truck run a little ruff when on idol? sounds like a vacume leak of some sort. it isnt the transfer case because it did work so it must be something to do with the vacume. take out acutaor again on the transfer case and watch as someone puts in 4 hi and 4 low ya should see the ball bearing on the bottom go up and down.has the truck been sitting for awhile? sometimes the transfer case gets sticky without being used offten. make sure your fluid level is up. there will be a bolt on the top side of transfer case that will alow you to feel for fluid. check with pinky. if you can feel the fluid it is up.might be best to replace fluid. hope that helps. if ya need to get better info add [email protected] on messenger and i will talk ya through it. hope this helps. i know these trucks very well. hope this helps!

Push button 4wd wont engage in 4wd

there is a small sensor on the top of the transfer case that has three vacume lines into it. that little switch has a bearing that the vacume sucks up to operate the 4 wheel drive. replace as well as check the vacume lines to make sure you dont have a hole or leak in them
