Stratoliner replacement Ehaust System

I own a 2007 stratoliner with standard exhuast.

I am interested in replacing the exhaust with Hard Krome 2 in 1 side burner exhaust.

A friend who is a retired Yamaha mechanic insists that by doing this I will lose horsepower due to the OEM exhuast having a exhaust port that opens and closes depending on back pressure.

He has indicated that my only option is slip on's.

Can you help me understand and let me know if this is true or not ?

Your friend is correct. These bikes will lose a small amount of HP and torque in the mid range if you disable the EXUP valve. Slip on's would be a better choice.
