Check the pickup connectors to cdi box

Would that be the 2 clips, 2 wires run to 1 clip and 4 wires to the other? It has a black and white wire run from the key switch and a black and red wire run from the stator. The one with 4 wires are a black which runs to the coil a blue and yellow wire that runs to pulse generator and 2 green(ground) wires.

When I bought the bike, its an enduro I took the seat off and rats had chewed the wires up but jus toward the back of the bike to the battery tailight and turn signals but I've run the hot and ground to the battery and nuetral light and everything works just can't get it to fire...thanks for any help!

ok looking at a wiring diagram, the green is to continual live. the black goes to the cdi (singnal to fire) the coils earth through the spark plugse

  • Anonymous Mar 24, 2013

Is there anyway you can send me a site for a diagram? On the bike all solid black wires(hot) run together into 1 and toward the back of bike same with all greens and I tested them and they appear to be grounds

  • Anonymous Mar 24, 2013

I've got a couple diagram pics I saved from the web but can't find any that are for the exact year and make of my bike

note. on your model it would seem the green go to earth as you said before, sorry if i mis-guided you, remember the black/white goes to earth to kill engine through kill switch. ( i.e. check this isn't earthed when trying to start bike)

the 2 green wires ?? is 1 green a green and white to cdi unit/pulse unit, are there 2 wires to pulse unit

  • Anonymous Mar 25, 2013

Its ok on the misguidin deal any help I can get right now is much appreciated. But its a blue/yellow wire and a green run from the pulse generator to cdi box and a solid black wire and a green run from coil to cdi box

  • ibrown1967
    ibrown1967 Mar 25, 2013

sounds like everythings in place. with battery charged we know powers going to cdi, are we starting, is there a spark now, contacts are all good. engines earthed..

  • Anonymous Mar 25, 2013

There is a green/yellow wire that is run toward back of bike. Like I had mentioned rats had eat up wiring toward back of bike and the only stray wires that I don't know where they go are the green/yellow and all the blacks that run into one that run toward back. There are 3 blacks 1 comes out of clip to regulator, 1 comes from a little box beside regulator that im guessing is a fuse that has a gray run to it also (both are hot) and the other black runs up to kill switch

  • ibrown1967
    ibrown1967 Mar 25, 2013

green and yellow seem to be brake system, the black is live to same it looks like

  • Anonymous Mar 25, 2013

But why are the black run into 1 and to the back do you know any type of electronic box or anything toward the rear that it should run to that may have been there before and isn't now?

  • ibrown1967
    ibrown1967 Mar 25, 2013

could have been a fuse box. have you located rectifier. i'd get the bike running then sort the wiring out. creating your own live feeds if need be. baring in mind wherever you take your live feed from you want to make sure keys off position turns all live feeds off

  • Anonymous Mar 25, 2013

There are 3 little boxes together on the left side of bike behind gas tank 1 says regulator rectifier on it, 1 I don't know about and the little box I mentioned that I think is a fuse. The right side is the cdi box and the coil...I just cant figure out why there's no fire to the sparkplug if I could do that the bike would run I know the guy that had it he was older and rode his little girl up and down the road on it and he bought it new, it only has 53 hours on it. But I appreciate the help if you think of anything else let me know. Thanks

How would I go about running live leads? Can I bypass everything from somewhere strait to the coil or what?

  • ibrown1967
    ibrown1967 Mar 25, 2013

no lol.. if battery is good just make sure the cdi's connected up ok, check power from there to coils, both wires, check coil, ht lead, ht cap, spark plug.

  • ibrown1967
    ibrown1967 Mar 25, 2013

pulse generator may need checking too if not recieving power from cdi to coil may need checking to

  • Anonymous Mar 25, 2013

How would I test the cdi box and pulse generator to see if they are bad? I took the cover off of the pulse generator on side of motor and the spark advancers had surface rust on them but is the pulse generator supposed to put power to the cdi box or from cdi box to pulse generator?

  • ibrown1967
    ibrown1967 Mar 25, 2013

it'll be be cdi to pulse and back( 2 wires). If the CDI is suspected to be bad, the only reliable way to test it is to swap it for a known good unit. you can test the coils.

  • Anonymous Mar 25, 2013

Ok thanks bud ill let ya know somethin when I figure it out.

  • Anonymous Apr 13, 2013

I got it running it was the cdi box but now it will run like it should about quarter of throttle but trying to hold it full throttle its like it floods itself out I can let off back down to quarter of throttle and it will run fine

sounds like air getting in, check bith sides of carbs. is there a vacuum pipe to tank fuel tap. is this ok, no air leaks. is air filter on and ok, (often acts as an air restrictor). also checkthe carb slider is freely moving ok

  • Anonymous Apr 13, 2013

There is only 2 places where there isn't any lines on it 1 is over flow and 1 is behind the choke lever on carb I put a hose on it and blew thru it and gas squirts out from where gas comes out of tank into it

  • ibrown1967
    ibrown1967 Apr 14, 2013

ok, if there is a vacuum pipe it will be in front of carb between carb and engine. also check the flow of petrol into carb for restriction esp from fuel tap. also the carb has a tickover jet a mid range jet and a main jet. possibly worth looking at main jet for any blockages (the jet the main needle goes through.)

SOURCE: I have no spark 2000 KTM 125 sx

Before going to the CDI system go ahead and check the kill switches including the side stand switch, with an Ohmmeter. How good is the battery? Check the fuses. Check the wiring harness. Are all wires clean and with a solid connection? Any abraded wires? Check the operation of the ignition switch with a volt ohmmeter. Is the bike in neutral and the neutral light is lit up?

You can download a free PDF factory service manual by going to the website below >
http://www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp
The manual should tell you in detail how to test the CDI and other electrics.

SOURCE: no spark 110cc engine wont start

Check the fuses. Next, check for spark but with a new spark plug. How good is the battery? If needed, add water to the battery cells enough to cover the top of the cell plates.Try a jump start from your car battery. Is the kill switch on? Check the operation of the ignition switch with a volt ohmmeter. You should be getting power into and out of the ignition switch.

If the bike doesn't start and run properly check the side stand kill switch. It kills the engine so that you don’t start out with the side stand down. Broken or out of adjustment, it would kill the spark. Check for a broken wire at the switch or coupler. Get a service manual and check out the electrical section. Some bikes have a diode integrated into the turn signal relay. Try moving the kill switch by hand. If that doesn’t work then wire a jumper around the switch to bypass it. If that doesn’t work, check out the relay.

Check the wiring harness. Did a wire come unplugged? Are all wires clean and with solid connections? Any abraded or pinched wires? Is the bike in neutral and the neutral light is lit up? If no neutral light, check the neutral switch and neutral switch wire on center casing.

The voltage on the coils is present except at the instant of firing. The interruption of the voltage is what causes the coil to fire. The cdi box is what causes the voltage interruption.
The interruption is very hard to detect. You are not the first to be stymied by that box. If you have access to an oscilloscope, I think you can see the pulse if it occurs.

SOURCE: I have a 1984 honda xr 350 and i've changed the

Those bikes can be a pain to start after they've sat awhile. What always worked for me was twist the throttle a bunch. I mean make sure its flooded. Then lay the bike over on its left side until the gas runs out the overflow. Stand it up and lay it down until it stops running out. Then I squeeze the decompression lever and cycle the motor. Now just barely pull on the decompression lever to open the valve just barely. Get it to top dead center and give her a good kick with a twist of the throttle. Becareful it could kick back.
This technique works for when the bike stalls when its hot. Most important part is if you think its flooded lay it over and start the process over. Remember your XR has two carbs and will flood QUICK. After some practice you'll be able to hear it in the exhaust pipe if she's flooded or if she trying to come around. Trust me. I have four of these bikes. Two 83's, one 84 and my beloved 85.

Do not use a universal CDI unless you have the exact wiring cross-over diagram, or have tech help from the manufacturer. You can short out the CDI and other ignition components like the stator.

Not firing

Check the CDI-box. Then the spark-plug wire. You could remove the tank and the seat to see the CDI-box.
