The dash is suposed to be grounded to the body and firewall Simple way to check is to re-ground it using a long set of jumpers....connect only the negative lead to the battery negative post and connect the other end to the metal cross bar at the bottom of the dash that runs all the way across. If it's not grounding properly, the items that are acting up will return to normal. Don't forget...it could also be a faulty ignition switch or other main connection between battery and all systems.

SOURCE: my 5700 runs about 5 min. then back fire out the

I would first said that your intake valve is not sealing like it should (burned, warped, etc). But, you have already checked that.

The other reason for a backfire is timing. Could your magneto or keyway be heating up and moving throwing off the timing? And speaking of keyways, how does the woodruff key look? Is it chewed up or distorted?

When I start my Kawasaki Mule 3010 with the choke out when cold it will start and then seems to run the carb out of gas and stalls. If I wait 5 to 10 min and try it it will start and it will run fine

Sounds like not getting petrol, clean petrol tap to get a good flow and clean and strip carburetor the needle and seat could be clogged any way clean and blow out jets and holes with compressed air put back together and away you go.

Runs good for 2-3 min, then dies

I would try using some solvent to clean the carb. It sounds like the float valve is not moving freely, therefore not letting enough fuel into the carb. Be careful though, solvent can be a bit rough on the engine, so be sure to drain it out of the fuel bowl and replace with the appropriate fuel before starting the engine.

My Honda 13.5hp engine has started surging. It seemed to occur after the air filter fell off during mowing for a few seconds. I have tried cleaning the carburator but it still surges. Anything else I can...

Hi sndlys,
When the engine surges (we call it hunting) like that it usually means, the carburetor or the governor need adjustment. You have cleaned the carb. but did you clean or replace the air filter, and did you try to adjust the carb? Since it was running good before I doubt it is the governor. Try to adjust the high speed mixture screw by 1/8 turn at a time and waiting a few seconds to let that adjustment work it's way in the carb. Start by turning the screw out (counterclockwise) a few times. If nothing happens or gets worse turn the screw in (clockwise) a few times, but do not go less than 1 turn out from a lightly seated position. (turned clockwise until lightly seated so no damage is done to the seat or the needle screw) to prevent running in too lean a mixture to prevent overheating and possible engine damage. You could try the low (idle) speed mixture screw adjust a bit, but make sure you remember the position you started from whenever you any adjustment at all. I think if the carburetor is clean and the air filter is clean, also that there is a good fuel flow to the carb. you should be OK. I hope this helps out a bit.Get back to me if you need help. All the best and good luck. Denis.

17hp b/s intek OHV after 30 min mowing starts running rough

if gas is in the oil the needle and seat in the carb are bad or some thing in it. the gas will go in to the crank case and load the cylinder with gas. you can take the carb apart to see if something is in the seat. or replace the carb

LEAKING OVERFLOW PROBLIM

it sounds to me like the carb float levels are out of adjustment and it is overfilling the bowls,or,the needle valve seats are worn and leaking, which will allow fuel to continue filling the bowls even though it looks like they are closed, remove the carbs from the bike, remove the bowls, turn the cabs upside down close the floats(push them right to the top, this simulates full bowls)then blow throgh the fuel inlet pipe,if you can hear air escaping from around the seats they are faulty, also check that the seats themselves are tight in the carb body,i dont know why but gsxr carbs seem to shake the valve seats loose..hope this helps
