2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250 will not start

My wifes bike sat for 6 months and would not start. I drained the tank of the old fuel and the carbs bowls, cleaned the plugs, and replaced the battery but the engine will not turn start, What else would you recommend?

    The engine cranks but will not run. I verified that there is spark and there is fuel in the bowls. The engine turns over fine but will not fire up. I did not notice any clicking sound when I try to start it either.

    have a 2001 kawasaki 250 ninja wont turn can hear solenoid clicking . if hand placed on starter can feel slight click when pressing starter button.

    side stand locks? is that the little button switch that it pressed when the kick stand is up?

Hi, I really need some help please. I have a 2009 Ninja 250R. It wont start. When I press the ignition button it clicks. The sound comes from somewhere in the battery and sounds like an electrical current when I lightly press the button. I have tried recharging the battery but nothing happens. I dont know what to do and cant figure it out, please need advice.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your post "engine will not turn start", are you referring to the starter motor not turning or is it cranking but will not run?

  • if no crank, check the starter relay;
  • will not run, verify that there is spark at the end of the plugs;
  • will not tun, verify that there is fuel in the bowl of the carb (drain again);
  • if it has a fuel valve, set to PRI.
Incidentally, any clicking sound when you press START? Pls postback updates.

    Hi again and appreciate the postback,

    A couple of ideas to try:


        remove the sparkplugs;

        air dry the combustion chamber;

        or spray the inside with a can of compressed air through the plugholes using the small tube/nozzle of the air-can. This should be done while cranking with no plugs, throttle not turned;

        slightly spray injector/carb cleaner through the plugholes using the small tube/nozzle of the cleaner can;

        change the plugs (even if cleaned);

        try with the plugs in place.
    If the above does not starts the engine, you may need to:


        remove the airbox;

        manually raise the throttle sliders to allow more air to flow. This animation may help give you the idea.

probably old gas or condensation built up in carb or injectors.if carbureated drain float bowl & if you still have old gas in it drain tank close drain screw/bolt refill with premium fuel add fuel cleaner like b12 chemtool or seafoam(7-10$) to a fresh tank of gas...sometimes i just add the b12 chemtool (3-5$)and run it a few miles and it snaps right back to new!

My 2006 klx 250 won't fire, no fuel in float bowl, Tank is full, I drained the float bowl to try to get it to start and now no fuel is getting to the bowl
Check the filter screen on the fuel tap for blockage etc. Also check the tap for anything that may have lodged in it and blocking it. Check the fuel pipe too.

Bike starts well, 2006 but only has 1000 miles on it. sat in storage during move (7 months). drained gas and disconnected battery. idles fine but when you give the the gas to go or give it gas period it...
If the bike ran fine prior to putting it in storage and all you did was drain the fuel and disconnect the battery, its likely moisture ( condensation) developed in the carbs while it sat. this type of thing happens when fuel is drained. Your best bet is to remove the carbs and clean the jets. Its my opinion and experience to put fresh fuel in a bike along with (stable) fuel treatment prior to storing them. With the stable added to the fuel, the fuel will hold good for about 1 year.. Replacing the battery and starting them and letting them warm up to operating temp monthly while in storage is always a good idea..

Will only start with direct feed or starter fliud
Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If after the "...start with direct feed or starter fliud...", the bike will idle / run correctly, then it is not a carb problem. If will not idle / run correctly, then a carb problem.

Initially, it would appear that the problem would be restricted fuel flow from the tank through the petc0ck (fuelcut off valve). A way to check is to drain carb bowls individually, compare quantity and quality of fuel from each. Guesstimate if the collected / drained fuel is about right for the bowl size.

If on the otherhand, it is a carb issue (float closing early hence too little fuel in the bowl), then a carb pulldown maybe required. The illustration here would give you an exploded parts diagram.

89 kawasaki ninja 250 crank no start
ok i have one and i just fixed mine you need to drain the fuel from bottom of carbs and drain the tank also. then replace the spark plugs once you do that add new fuel in tank and drain the carbs again unitil good fule start runing out then shut them off. aftre that make sure there are two line connected to the petcock from the carb. spray soem starting fluid in the air box and chock it boom it will start. if it has spark.

1986 Kawasaki Ninja won't fire
Theres fuel starvation, the carbs are not getting required fuel in other words the float chambers doesnt get the correct amount of fuel .
Check the fuel flow from the petcock to the carburators.
Check the float pin and adjust accordingly to get the right level inthe float chamber of each carburator.

How to drain fuel from carb bowl?????
there should be a screw or a larg looking bolt on the bottom of the float bowl (carb) remove it and it will drain use a rag to catch it and drain your tank add fresh gas (if it dose'nt run right you may have to clean the carb)

You'll want to refill with some high priced fuel that has fuel system cleaners (Like Chevron with Techron) not becasue you need high-test fuel, but because you need the cleaners. It's ether that or disassemble the carbs and clean out jets you can't find much less see. Your choice. The carb kits alone will cost you about $50 so a tank of high-test is looking pretty good, huh?

• Now the fact that you tried to crank the engine with old fuel has fouled the sparkplugs. All of them. Go buy all new sparkplugs.

• If your bike has a vacuum fuel valve, then you'll also need to set the valve to "Prime".

2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R Wont Start
Gas in Europe ain't as good as gas stateside. But lets say the gas is okay. Got a fully charged battery? Put a 1 or 2 amp charger on the battery for an hour. Not starting yet? Check for a good spark on one of the sparkplugs.. Next check for water condendsate in the small bowl that makes up part of the petcock ( Fuel valve ). Dump the bowl then turn on the gas valve for a moment. Got gas flowing from the tank? If you have spark and gas and still no ride with the wind in your hair then shut off the gas valve and remove the drain screw from the carbs. Water may have collected there also. Still no go? Take it to a dealer, you have done what you can.
