SOURCE: need to know how to

There are two plugs on the bottom of the transmission, one for the engine oil, one for the tranny lube. The engine oil drain is the one that is closest to the left front corner of the oil pan. The other plug is the transmission.

The engine requires three quarts of oil, the tranny takes 20-24 ounces of oil.. Check the engine oil with the bike on the side stand. There are two marks on the dipstick. The upper mark is the "FULL HOT", the lower mark is the 'FULL COLD" mark. Keep the oil level between these two marks and do not overfill.

On the transmission, on the right side of the transmission, you'll see a chrome clutch release cover. It's behind the exhaust system. There is a plug that takes a 3/8" Allen or Hex key to remove. Check the oil level with the bike standing straight up.

As for what lubricants to use, I always use nothing but Harley-Davidson oil. 20W50 Syn 3 oil in the engine, transmission, and primary on 2000 and later model bikes. However, you can use other oils such as Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobil, Motor Factory, and many others. Synthetic or petroleum based, your choice. Check the website of the manufacturer that you wish to use.

Good Luck

Hi,

This will be transmission/gearbox fluid if it smells like you said it does. Yes you need to warm it up and then check the gearbox fluid level, this can be refilled through the filler bolt ehich is on the left hand side of the gearbox at thetop middle. Its a large head bolt.

Let ,me know if you need more help.

Thanks

Jason

Hubby changed oil, but it wont start. he thinks he might have changed the transmission oil instead. what can we do? will it be expensive to get the valve?

If he doesnt know the difference between engine oil and transmission fluid, he should probably avoid changing any more fluids.
He should be able to check the transmission fluid level and oil level to make sure both are correct. If there is engine oil in the transmission then it needs to be drained before you run it. Fill with trans fluid and drain again. Then fill with fluid and hope for the best.
I would start by checking all fluids to be correct and at proper levels.
I'm not sure what you mean about "the valve".

How to change auto transmission fluid of ford everest

Just draining the fluid does not get the fluid out of the torque converter. Most service shops use a machine that replaces the fluid while the engine is running and uses the pump in the transmission to move clean fluid in while at the same time collects the old fluid. That is , by far, the best way to change ALL the fluid in the transmission

Problems with hummers

There is virtually no difference between the Hummer H3 drive train and comparable GMC and Chevrolet drive trains. Although you overspent on a piece of pseudo-military jewelry, the drive train is reasonably reliable and easy to service, and parts interchange with GM truck parts.
My sole recommendation would be to use 15W-40 diesel-grade oil instead of the recommended oil and, if you haven't already done it in the last 20,000 miles, change all fluids (crankcase oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, differential fluid, power steering fluid, engine coolant).

Is there any problem putting a second trans cooler "in-line"? Would adding enough fluid to fill the cooler affect the fluid recommended fluid level?

You can probably fill the new cooler with liquid and measure the amount it takes, then include that amount in total volume. For instance, when you measure motor oil to a crankcase, some include the 1/2 quart or so in the oil filter to the total volume needed.

I would not see any problem with adding a second cooler. There are some trans pans that have cooling fins or cooling tubes in them. It might accomplish what you want.

How much transmission fluid is needed in a 1991 chev 1/2 ton pickup . Changing tranmission fluid and filter.

Dear Madam or Sir,

the problem with this the fact, that a large amount of fluid will remain in the torque converter. So knowing how much fluid has to be filled into an empty transmission will not be useful for you, you would overfll your transmission.

Usually you have to measure the amount of oil coming out of the transmission and refill the same amount .

Now you have to refill quart-wise, check the oil level, fill up and so on.

There´s no better solution I can offer you, I´m sorry.

no special tools needed, remove lower plastic ,undo drain plug ( probably 14mm wrench),drain oil into a non food container, undo filter with a filter wrench or by hand, refit new filter, refit drain plug, add 10w40 oil of your choice ( not car oil !!) probably approx 4 ltrs , check level is halfway on site glass on crankcase.if all is tight start bike check for leaks refit plastic.. brake fluid is probably DOT 4,
