How do i change fluid other than the crankcase oil? are the fluids different?
SOURCE: no service manual-need fluid capacities
20-24 oz. in tranny, 32 oz. in primary, 3-31/2 qts. in engine. I use 20\50 in engine and primary. and 70/100 in tranny. I use syn. amsoil. Good luck
SOURCE: I need to know where to put the fluid back in when
should bed a plug (cap) on the top of the fork
SOURCE: need to know how to
There are two plugs on the bottom of the transmission, one for the engine oil, one for the tranny lube. The engine oil drain is the one that is closest to the left front corner of the oil pan. The other plug is the transmission.
The engine requires three quarts of oil, the tranny takes 20-24 ounces of oil.. Check the engine oil with the bike on the side stand. There are two marks on the dipstick. The upper mark is the "FULL HOT", the lower mark is the 'FULL COLD" mark. Keep the oil level between these two marks and do not overfill.
On the transmission, on the right side of the transmission, you'll see a chrome clutch release cover. It's behind the exhaust system. There is a plug that takes a 3/8" Allen or Hex key to remove. Check the oil level with the bike standing straight up.
As for what lubricants to use, I always use nothing but Harley-Davidson oil. 20W50 Syn 3 oil in the engine, transmission, and primary on 2000 and later model bikes. However, you can use other oils such as Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobil, Motor Factory, and many others. Synthetic or petroleum based, your choice. Check the website of the manufacturer that you wish to use.
Good Luck
Steve

Hi,
This will be transmission/gearbox fluid if it smells like you said it does. Yes you need to warm it up and then check the gearbox fluid level, this can be refilled through the filler bolt ehich is on the left hand side of the gearbox at thetop middle. Its a large head bolt.
Let ,me know if you need more help.
Thanks
Jason
