Possible running too rich! 2001 TTR 225

Lots of back firing, some flame coming out of the exhaust. How do I adjust if it is running too rich?

First I would pull the spark plug to see what it looked like, you want it to be a chocolate color. If it is black and wet then yes you are running rich. Also check your air filter, go ahead and clean the filter. If all this doesnt solve the problem then we probably need to look at our carb.

This isnt a fun fix i know i have a 04 ttr 225 and your probably going to have to take the carb off and adjust the fuel screw which is almost impossible to get to while its on the bike and if you dont know how to do it find someone who knows what they are doing and you should be riding soon enough it only takes about an hour or 2

What causes a lot of backfire?

Backfiring with flames usually means 2 things1) Rich mixture (lots of fuel). The spark plugs becomes black powdered. Need good carburetor setup (main jet, needle, pilot screw adjustments)2) Poor valve sealing. Damaged valve seats causes that. Need to take apart the cylinder head and grind the valves (procedure that all mechanics know). That means that when the mixture is compressed inside the chamber and ignited part of the mixture explosion escapes from the leaking valve's seat to the exhaust, so concentrated unburnt fuel in the exhaust catches fire and explodes through the exhaust, creating the flame.

New exhaust on my wr 450f and its gargling and back firing

You have probably restricted the exhaust too much. Causing it to run rich. you will have to adjust your air mixture screw and lean it out. But first, check the color of your spark plug. Lean it out if it's dark, richen it if it's white. Your looking for a nice carrot color. The plug never lies. :)

Replaced stater, put bike back togeather, and now have flames

If you're seeing fire coming out of your pipes, you need to adjust your timing and lean out your carb. It's running too rich.
