SOURCE: check engine light acting up

The first thing I would check is the voltage output from the charging system. If the regulator isn’t regulating, the voltage will keep climbing as the engine speed increases. The electronics in the speedometer don’t work well at these high voltages. This would also explain the bright marker lamps. You should be able to see this with a simple voltmeter across the battery terminals.

If it was stored with fuel in the tank:

1. The fuel filter should be replaced
2. You may to replace the fuel delivery system coming out of the tank
3. Remove the plug in the carb and reset the idel mixture

I just bought one store for 6 years - my issue is the bike will n ot idel but runs on the road like a bat out hell.

Its your fuel pump if you can't hear it. And its inside your tank. Not a hard fix if you have a book that tells you how to remove it. Alot of procedures to follow to get it right. And yes it does work off a relay.

After sitting over night, start it and it makes clattering noise top front of motor for about 30 seconds and stops. runs great, already changed water pump, belt etc. new power steering pump also.

change the oil filter to a better quality wit an anti-drain back valve , change oil and up grade to 30w-50 oil viscosity
remove and check the leak back rate for the hydraulic followers
the problem is that the oil drains back from the valve train resulting in a noise until oil pressure is restored

08 gmc 5.3L vortec 193K daughter drove it tues night, wed morn cranked it, NO oil press. sounds bad! oil pump O-ring, pressure relief, crank bearing? always changed oil @ 5000 miles or less

Has it any oil in it at all?

If the oil level was low heavy cornering and braking can cause oil swill away from the pump pick up robbing the engine of oil pressure for a few moments. At high engine revs it takes only a few seconds for permanent damage to be done.

Some vehicles use a steel oil pan that is quite exposed and if grounded the oil pan can be bent upwards and close off the oil pump inlet.

It isn't unknown for an oil pressure relief valve to stick open but that is unlikely remove all oil pressure from a healthy engine when cold.

Clearly there are some careful checks needed but if the engine sounds bad the damage was probably done Tuesday night so a crankshaft and bearing overhaul is probably needed...

Check all the fusses and the bulb for the check engine light.
If the fuel pump wasnt running it wouldnt start at all.
I think you have a bad voltage regulator and your engine light would be on if it worked.

Low oil pressure on 08 gmc seirra

With fuel injection if the pressure goes to low the fuel pump will stop and the lifters will get noisy. If you are seeing 10 lbs hot at idle I wouldn't worry to much.
If you have a high mileage vehicle and live in a warm climate,go for 20w50 oil at your next oil change, some use straight 40w oil to help oil pressure on worn engines.

I have a 04 night train with carb and it does back fire and then there is a mist of oil that spill out of my air filter.

The backfiring though the carb is probably due to a lean mixture. The carbs are jetted extremely lean to meet EPA emissions levels. Also, the crankcase pressure is vented into the air filter to be recycled though the engine per EPA requirements. The same thing as the PCV valve on your automobile engine. When the engine coughs, it's will blow out a mist of oil because of this.

Now, you can have the carb rejetted to richen the mixture. I'd go up one size on the slow jet. Also check to make sure the accelerator pump is working properly. With the engine OFF, the air filter off, crank the throttle to the wide open position. You should see a stream of fuel squirt into the carb from the brass accelerator pump nozzle.

Since the crankcase pressure is vented to the air filter, oil will accumilate in the air filter. You must periodically remove the covers and clean the filter out. There are kits available on the aftermarket parts venue that will allow you to reroute your crankcase pressure away from the air filter.

Good Luck

Knocking when engine gets hot and car stopped

Sounds af if you may have a transmission issue. I would take it to dealer to have it checked. Noises can be hard to track down even if you are standing next to a vehicle unless you have proper training in vehicle drivability

2007 night train vance & hines pipes & fuel pack w/K&N air filter. Just discovered oil on top of rear cylinder

It probably isn't oil, it's more than likely fuel mixed with carbon due to running too rich. check your settings on the fuel pak.

High Idle on a 2007 Night train

The engine needs 950-1050 rpm's to properly charge the battery and supply enough oil pressure. Lowering it can effect both and is not advisable to do. There;s a small window to play with but it is better left at factory specs. As far as FI injection to carb, it can be done but at a cost and the same applies to idle speed there, just a bit more of a window because of no fuel pump drawing from the system.
