Hi i don't know what motorcycle you have but some times when you run the bike on to empty all the **** in your tank consolidates in that small amoutn of fuel then its in your carb or carbs. if there is a drain screw on the bottom of the carb open it up and let it drain out that may help.

SOURCE: wont run on prime setting on fuel tap

Hi,

On most Japanese bikes, the PRI position allows fuel to flow from the tank to the carbs even if the engine is not running. In the ON position, the fuel gate valve would only allow fuel to flow if there is vacuum which of course would mean that the engine is running. There is normally a vacuum hose from the intake manifold of cylinder 1 that leads back to the fuel valve that triggers the internal diaphragm to open the fuel line.

If we are to assume that for some reason the PRI position is blocked, then switching the "fuel tap" to this position would not allow fuel to go down the carbs. Thereafter, the engine used what fuel was left inside the carbs (100 meters) and the engine died. Switching the "fuel tap" back to ON again would not allow fuel to flow down from the tank to the carbs since there is no vacuum and very little vacuum when starting the bike; and the bike would not start, no fuel inside the carbs.

Correct action of course would mean overhauling the "fuel tap" and initially setting it to PRI and then to ON soon as the engine is running on its own. Temporary remedy/workaround would be to manually feed fuel to all the carbs with the use of an external container with rubber hose/fitting. Alternately, you can try spraying starter fluid or car injector cleaner. This should be done with the air cleaner off. A word of caution, in some older bikes I have worked on, this condition would result to an overflow of the carbs soon as the engine starts indicating that the float(s) inside the carbs are sticking.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: stalling when starting

if after the two mins ur putting the choke back in and the bike dies, it could be that your needing to adjust the idle speed.
it might just be set on the lower limit so that when ur bike isnt fully warmed up it struggles.

SOURCE: Bike wont start

Install new spark plugs and add a can of seafoam to your gas at the rate of one ounce per gallon to clean your carbeurator.

Drain the carb floats and clean with Seafoam. Gas breaks down after about 6 months and the ethanol in the gas coats the carb.

Clarke king 140 power wash, boiler wont fire up

Remove the main cover, look on top of the grey boiler cylinder and remove the black cover marked FUEL PUMP. You will see the fuel pump unit, on the side of the unit there is a small wingnut used for bleeding the fuel pump. Carefully switch on the washer onto its hot setting and while it is running undo the bleed screw until you see fuel start to drip from the screw, you can then tighten the screw and the boiler should fire. Be careful not to touch any of the high voltage ignition components while you carry out the bleeding procedure.

I just put a new fmf fatty pipe and a power core 2 silencer on my bike (1994 yz 250) and now when I start my bike it will run for like 10 sec and then It will bog down and die on me. Then it wont start,...

if the bike was running fine before you replaced pipe, you may need larger jets,or richen fuel mix, also check the reed valve it may be on the weak side.try a new spark plug also if you have not already replaced it.

When bike is sitting up right it bogs out and back fires won't stay running, but if put the kick stand and lean it to the side it clears up and runs good and when stand staight up again it starts to bog...

I would say you have problem in the tank with the fuel pump line. When you lean the bike on the kickstand all the fuel goes to the left side an covers the line which then creates enough fuel pressure to run the bike. If you filled the tank full it would probably run ok until the fuel level gets below the bad line.

Quad bike wont start-wont even fire

Hello if you ran out of gas i am not familiar with this motorcycle but honda and most street bikes the fuel petcock / fuel valve are vacuum actuated so when you run out of fuel you need to turn the fuel valve to primary to fill the carburetors once you get it started turn the valve back to the on position.
hope this helps.

Hello. tryed to start my bike after a unexpected snow fall and was bitterly cold. the bike wont start just back fires. hasd it running for 5 seconds after cleans and checking plugs coils coil leads, fuel,...

You may have some fuel issues. The cold may have cause any "trash" in the fuel to clump together. Flush your fuel out of the tank and check / change fuel filter. Hope this helps, please let us know, thanks

2002 gsx wont start

if you have done this and the engine fired then you most likely have a fuel deliverly problem make sure you have fuel (good) in tank petcock is in the on position and fuel flows then check float bowl fuel level and all air bleeds are not plugged also air breather is clean then if nothing happens check all fuel jets and passages
