What can I do to start the bike? The ignition switch works and the lights go on but the red lock light is preventing my bike from starting.
Hope this works for you.Instructions Turn the key to the ignition position. Quickly press both turn signal indicators, until a light on the dash flashes. Enter the first digit of your 5-digit security PIN by pressing in the left-turn switch the same number of times. So if your PIN is 76543, you should press the left-turn switch six times. Press the right-turn switch once to store the number and move to the next digit in your PIN code. Press the left turn signal six times to continue, until you get to the end. At the end of the process, the alarm will disarm and the light on the dash will stop blinking. You can now start the bike as normal

Check your pick-up sensor located inside the timing cover, behind the
adjustor plate. If the filament is not intact you will have no spark.
A defective coil, cam position sensor, or stator will also cause a no spark condition.
Good luck, i hope this will FixYa and get your bike back on the road.

Your alarm is on. If it's a HD alarm one long click turns it on and 2 short clicks turn it off.

The only idea that i can come up with is that you dont have a good ground..or the guage was bad when you bought it..i hope this..Keith
hold key fob until signals flash, check speedo for solid key light, then try...if it still does the same thing, battery could be too low(will cause this also)

I would guess stale gasoline or fuel. Try fresh fuel in the tank. If this doesn't clear the problem, you could need to have your carburetor or fuel injection system cleaned. I'm not even sure if they put fuel injection on Sportsters since I don't work on fuel injected bikes. I mostly work on the older bikes like Panheads, Shovelheads, Evos. Not too many Sportsters but have worked on a lot of Ironhead Sportsters. Try the fuel first. It's a cheap fix. Hope it works for you. Good luck with the knee replacement. My wife had one knee replaced and it works great.
