Its better u take it to a motorcycle service, they can check the voltage that the scooter produces to charge the battery, maybe its the regulator or the magnetic field.
HOw old is the battery? If the battery is no good then the stator and voltage regulator will work overtime trying to charge a bad battery and eventually burn up. First make sure you have a good fully charged battery ( 12.60 + ). Next check to be sure all of your grounds are good. Battery to chassis, and chassis to motor. The regulator grounds to the frame through its body. Be sure there is no paint or corrossion where the regulator mounts... be sure it has a good ground. If you have a good battery and good grounds then its either the regulator or the stator. Regulator usually fails before the stator. A service manual will give the proper test procedure for checking stator output
