SOURCE: How hard is it to replace oil lines on my 01

they should still be fine, but if you are changing them, why not get the nice stainless steal sock ones, they look great and protect the rubber from foreign object damage.

SOURCE: I need to find out how to properly remove the

First, you need a way to safely lift the bike off the ground so that there is no chance of it falling over. Lift the bike so that the wheel you're working on is just barely on the ground with no weight on it.

Let's take the front wheel first. Before you take anything off, look at the axle, spacers, speedo gear (if there is one) and everything else closely and remember how it looks. Next, take the nut of the end of the axle. Loosen the nuts on the clamp on the other side. Start sliding the axle out. As the axle comes out, take the spacers and either label them or lay them out so you can remember in which direction and order that they go back in. If your bike has a speedo drive on the front wheel, notice that the drive tang sits in a small slot on the wheel. When you go to put the wheel back on, do everything in reverse. Tighten the nut to 50 ft. lbs. and then tighten the two nuts of the clamp on the other side to 20 ft. lbs.

Rear wheel. Almost same as front wheel except you'll probably have to loosen the belt just a bit prior to sliding the axle out. Reinstall in the opposite order. Adjust tension on rear belt and align rear wheel straight in the swingarm. Tighten the rear axle nut to 50 ft. lbs.

When installing either wheel, you may have to spead the brake pads in order to get the disc started back up between them.

Double check all nuts, bolts, and test brakes on both wheels before riding. Failure to proper perform these procedures can result in serious injury or death. Don't hurt yourself because you forgot to tighten a nut.

SOURCE: 2000 XL 1200C sportster custom how to change

To change the choke cable, you don't have to disassemble the carb but you may have to take it off the engine. The black plastic piece simply screws into the side of the carb. Once out, you'll have to take the plunger and spring off and put it on your new cable. Then screw the new cable into the hole. Reinstall the the carb on the bike. Always replace the carb seal on the intake where the carb plugs into it. Good Luck

1979 xls sportster. At about 3000 to 3500 bike begins to lose power and back fires. Not sure why. Any suggestions?

It sounds like ignition to me. Most likely coil or stater. I would start with the coil.

98 Sportster 883. starts & w/ choke, won't take throttle or choke off w/o stalling. Bike sat for a long time (years). Used Gumout to clean carb b4 pulling tank, cleaning & put fresh fuel -...

No, nothing else to check. You need to completely disassemble the carb and clean it out. When gasoline left in the float bowl evaporated, it left behind the gummy additives that the refinery puts in the gasoline. This mess has clogged the jets and small passageways in the carb. The reason it runs with the "choke" out is that it is not a real "choke" but rather an "enricher circuit". It has it's own air passageway and fuel metering "jet" in the float bowl.

Good Luck

Sportster spits back when i go to give it gas at times

Try going to a larger pilot jet (low speed) A 45 should do it, maybe a 48 if you have a freeflow air cleaner and exhaust. You also will have to remove the plug in the idle mixture well so ya can adjust the idle mix. It's underneath the carb. Probably your best bet would be get a performance kit like Yost or Thunderslide. There are WAY cheaper kits around, and as almost as good. They have the jets, drills and instructions to make your CV carb work decent.

How do i know if i have a cv carb motor.

By the year, which in this case is 2000. The factory stopped using the butterfly type on Sportsters somewhere around 1988 I think. But they are defitnely not on the 2000 unless someone has put it on. There also should be sticker on the side of the carby telling you it is a CV and what year. If all that fails take the air cleaner off and have a look down the carby, there should be a slide inside which you can lift upwards. This works of a vaccumn when the engine is running hence the constant velocity "CV"
