I have a 1995 Triumph Thuderbird Sport with 13,853 original miles. I have had this bike since 1999. My bike has recently been over heating and then shutting down. I noticed my coolant was low so and instead of filling it I replaced the coolant, I have a shop manual and I follwed their instruction, yet I am still over heating. I've noticed that the fan does not kick in at anytime, before, during, or after, over heating. this is the first real problem I've had with this bike in the 13 years I've had it, any ideas?

Hi,
Sounds like either your thermostat isn't working, or the switch on the side of the rad which tells the fan to switch on is faulty. They are cheap and easy to replace using a Haynes manual or similar.

When my '95 Triumph Thunderbird gets warm, the neutral light will not come on when the bike is put in Neutral which also kills the starter. The problen rights itself if the engine is allowed to cool....

Sounds to me like the bike is not recharging thebattery as it runs, and when you turn of the ignition the battery regains about 30%of its charge which allows you to run again, connect a multi meter to the battery with the ignition off, you should have 12 to 14 volts preset, now run the bike the voltage should rise to aprox 12-16 volts DC any readin lower than 12 volts could indicate a charging problem, hope this helps

New spark plugs turn black after going twenty miles

Hi
Make sure the air filter is clean (& not over oiled if sponge type)
Make sure that the pilot screws on #1 & #3 are 2 turns out and #2 is 2.25 turns out
Try turning 1/8 of a turn at a time
Also change to a softer plug - NGK DPR7EA-9 or equivalent as these stay hotter to burn more carbon off

My Thunderbird's temp light comes on after only 3 miles of riding. Replaced the thermostat, temp probe, coolant. Am tempted just to disconnect the lead to the probe, but know better than that. Any ideas?

A. take the probe out put it in water with some sort of heat source and a food thermometer se what temp it turns the light on. B. test the temp on the bike . if both are operating properly this way thenit leaves a fault in wiring. if the lightonly comes on at high rpms then u might have a shift light and your lights are pluged in wrong

Looked at an america with very low miles. Great bike but exhaust pipes at head are very blue - more so that i have seen on others with much higher miles. Might this be an indication of overheating at some...

Triumph bikes are well made but the exhaust always suffer and turn blue due to heat .
Now this is common on lots of bikes but the good old twins have a high compression output and i would , just for your own sake , get the compression level out of the specifications and put a gauge on the bike . this is the safest way of telling if the rings are weak and done a lot of miles .
the color of the exhaust may be only telling that the metal thickness may not be adequate or poor chrome workmanship due to chinese metal .

Sounds to me that your battery my be slight low on charge, try charging it up. Running the bike with a low battery can cause havoc with the stator as well as the pulse coil, those are two things you don't want to be replacing.
Hopefully this helps you out.
