SOURCE: where is the oil filter on my yamaha V-star 1100

On the right side of the bike (right side when ou are sitting on it) just above the rear brake lever behind a small circular plate. remove the plate and the oil filter is inside (you will easily see it). Warning---on these bikes you have to drop the front exhaust header and right floor board in order to change the oil filter unless you install a after market oil filter relocation kit. If you plan on changing your own oil it is highly recommended to install this relocation kit.

SOURCE: how to remove the starter clutch on a 2003 yamaha

It is on the back side of the flywheel for the magneto/generator. You will need to remove the left engine side cover then pull the flywheel. It does take a special puller to get the fly wheel off. Once you get the flywheel off, there are 8 allen bolts that hold it to the back side of the flywheel.

SOURCE: Yamaha 1100 Drag Star 2001 Custom motor starter,

These parts are fairly reliable. Rather than buying new, you should be able to pick one up from a motorcycle breaker who will post it to you. I would expect to pay about £60-£100 tops in the UK (Depending on mileage). ANy Yamaha dealer will be happy to order you one new, but they are a hell of a price!

Please don't type in all CAPS, it is considered SHOUTING and harder to read.
Question moved to model category.

It is a badly adjusted clutch, or the switch on the kickstand.

Replace the starter drive 2006 Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic

Most likely your starter "freewheel" / "sprag clutch" (like a 1 way bearing) is worn out. You'll need to remove the engine flywheel cover, the flywheel itself. The part is located behind. You will need to replace the 3x parts composing the bearing. Inner race, outer race and sparg clucth. Only replacing the sparg cluth might work, but not as long. Common causes for a worn out starter clutch is a weak battery. The engine sometimes kicks back, thus chewing the sprag clutch.

How to Change starter on 2006 Yamaha v star 1100

The starter motor is located on the front of the engine. follow the heavy starter cable wire to it. This model has a common starter clutch failure that should only be attempted by someone with much knowledge of this machine. This failure produces a symptom of starter slipping and makine lots of racket when trying to start. The problem is not with the starter motor.

My 2006 V Star 1100 Custom out of the blue refused to start right. When I push the starter button you can hear the starter spinning but it does not start. When I tap on the starter with a hammer it kicks...

If the starter does not spin unless you tap it with a plastic hammer then you need new starter brushes. If the starter motor is spinning but the motor is not, then the problem is with the one way clutch that is attached to the fly wheel. The is damage in this case involves two parts the large starter gear and the one way clutch. if the mating surface of the large starter gear is not perfectly smooth then the clutch will not grab it to turn over the motor. Part numbers 2 and 6. http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/2006-yamaha-xvs11awv/o/m8488#sch531535

2006 Yamaha Vstar custom starter issue

The one way clutch that engages the starter motor to the flywheel is chattered or damaged and needs to be replaced. The starter motor turns a small gear that is connected to a large gear by a small chain. On the side of the big gear is a smooth machined surface that the one way clutch grabs when the starter is engaged. The surface is chattered and the three grabber rollers wont jam or grab on the surface unless it is smooth therefore the starter spins but the motor does not. You will probably have to replace the large gear and possibly the three rollers also.
