Oil gauge goes to 80psi while I'm driving 70mph on highway, drops when I slow down. Why?

Oil Pressure Drops

Did the mechanic drive the truck with a mechanical gauge to check the pressure ? The engine bearings or oil pump could be worn enough to allow pressure to drop at idle after it warms up.

My 2006 trailblazer's oil pressure gauge just started dropping to 0 during driving...when I stop and kill the engine then restart it, the gauge goes back to normal. Any Ideas?

On a 1997 dodge dakota 4x4 3.9 oil pressure is ok on open highway but drops when i slow down or come to a stop ,does not leak or smoke and oil level is up to where it should .why such a big fluxsuatio

you may have a bad oil pressure gauge switch causing low reading

Oil gauge reads 80psi what is the problem

Sounds like a faulty sending unit. Remove transducer (sending unit) and test pressure with external gauge. Hope this helps.

Started with fuel gauge now oil pres. gauge , sometimes tach , these gauges bury themselves around clockwise and don't read properly. Sometimes at highway speed say 50mph the tach is reading 6000rpm, gas...

The gauges in the cluster are driven by stepper motors, these are known to fail. There are vendors on E-bay that offer services to replace the stepper motors. This would require you to remove the cluster from the truck.

this is almost certainly a oil pressure gauge sending unit problem, replace it and recheck.

Gauges go crazy while driving

Sounds like a faulty body control module, or the forward control module. Possibly the cluster is going bad. Is it still under warranty? Take it to the dealer, which you may have to do anyway.

That's normal in most cases, depending how low it goes. 40 psi approx when driving, 20 psi approx when idling ?

My oil pressure gauge is all the way to the right 80psi

The oil pressure sensor is bad,did you by chance change to synthetic oil recently,my jeep did the same right after changing to mobile1 synthetic

They are designed to change as the motor changes speed. If you have 80 lbs. of oil pressure than you have very good oil pressure in your engine. If it gets higher than 80, I would talk to service dept. at your local dealer.
